Someone mentioned on my post about a barista in Tom Price that it was an unusual name for a town. Tom Price is actually the name of the town, the mine and the mountain. They are all named after Thomas Moore Price (1891-1962) who was the vice-president of Kaiser Steel, a giant US steel company. He was very active in the exploration and development of the Hamersley Range.
It's ironic, and sad, that Price passed away from a heart attack two hours after being told that a very rich ore deposit had been discovered on the mountain which was later named Mt Tom Price.
The town is located on the edge of the range and is 1,470 km (913 miles) north of Perth, Western Australia. It is 747 metres (2,351 feet) above sea level and the highest town in WA. We stayed in the caravan park when we visited Karajini National Park and that is where the photo was taken. A collage of a pink-and-grey galah showing off his skills. Some of you will have seen it before.

Vince took them. The birds were in the caravan park and this one really seemed to be showing off to us.

I do not find unusual naming a place from a name of a person. Here in the Philippines many street, place, barrio, Avenue, main road, town, cities and sold province were named after a person. To give them honor for their legacy and contribution ok the place or in that area or in a industry. And for them to be remembered as generations passed by just like Tom Price.

I don't find it very unusual either but someone who commented thought it was.
