It Got Me to Thinking

If you have followed me at all, I was in sales for the last 10 years of my career, and before that I did pest control as a technician with a sales element to it. I made top sales one year. Of course, when the pest guy came over to take care of some yellow jackets, we wound up talking shop a bit. When you get two people together with common interests, that just sort of happens, you know. Anyway, I had made mention that I did enjoy pest control when I did it, but because of my back issues and such it's just a job I could not do anymore. "If I could do sales, MAYBE I'd consider it," I said. "Funny you should mention that," he said. "Rottler's looking for sales guys and our guy Steve is retiring real soon." Hmm. It got me to thinking. Should I go back to work? If I can make good money and I know I'd be good at it, and I haven't really lost my experience with pest control??? Not sure if it is something I want to do, but it definitely gets the wheels turning a bit. I am not much of a believer in chance. But maybe there's a reason those yellow jackets showed up to sting me. After all, how I wound up in pest control in the first place was kind of by accident as well. Could it happen twice?

Something to consider if you want to go back to work.

I am not sure I want to. But it's hard to pass up money when you can still make it, and more money means more opportunities to invest more which of course, also makes more money.

@just4him Lots to think about in the coming weeks. We have a camping trip in August and a trip to Florida in September. I plan to start considering options more closely after we get back from Florida. If nothing else, I might work part time doing something during winter since there's not much else to do but stare at the four walls. lol A Rottler full time gig would definitely be more lucrative but would require more work and commitment. Not sure what I want to do yet.

I say go for it. This may be a blessing in disguise. Maybe you wouldn't even have to work full time. Good luck and have a good day.

That would be awesome if I could have some kind of a flex schedule. I will certainly be giving the entire thought some serious consideration.

@LindaOHio One never knows unless they ask. I guess I could ask. A little exploratory discussion might be a great idea for me.

I'd say at least give it serious consideration. You could always back out later if you felt it was not the right move for you. You possibly have a good opportunity before you. Some people struggle to find any opportunities in their search for work, and yet you practically had this handed to you in your lap!

It does sound a bit like it is meant to be. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. Are you following up on it at all, or just thinking about it at the moment?

You shouldn't do something you don't want to do. But if you are great at sales and you may enjoy it why not give it a try?

@porwest Would it be a full-time thing or part-time?

It would be a tough decision since it would require way more commitment than what my alternative plan would otherwise be. It's hard to pass money up, though.

That is interesting..sounds like you are leaning toward going back to work. Not sure what sales for a pest control would be like...but you can't overlook the "chance" that has come your way. What does your wife think?
