Oh, is that infuriating. I could’ve been somewhere else this entire week! The civilian allergist called about 24 hours before my appointment and canceled it because they hadn’t notified the VA that my referral had expired. At least the VA isn’t at fault this time. I’ll contemplate things while giving you another great Texas singer. And, Linda? If I have to tell you “no!!!” just by the mention of his name, you deserve the migraine. #8: Buck Owens A dinosaur Victrola Listening to Buck Owens (CCR, “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”) Robbie Fulks said that, when he released his song called “The Buck Starts Here,” Buck Owens thanked him by sending him a t-shirt that said “Buck Owens’,” possessive apostrophe included. He said he preferred that to the red, white, and blue guitar Owens sent John Fogerty in gratitude for the above-quoted reference. You know Buck. If you think you don’t, just remember that the Beatles covered one of his songs (“Act Naturally”). The fact that he had to wait until 1996 for his Country Music Hall of Fame induction speaks volumes to the anti-Bakersfield bias (he was eligible in the 80s, based on the 25-year career start rule). That’s okay, he didn’t need Nashville. Bakersfield needed him more, so he was exactly where he needed to be. Country music was much better because he and Bakersfield gave us a viable alternative to the “Nashville Sound.” Buck Owens Born Alvis Edgar Owens, Jr. August 12, 1929, Sherman Died March 26, 2006, Bakersfield (heart attack) (age 76) HALLS OF FAME: Country Music, Nashville Songwriters Buck does bluegrass! “Rollin’ in My Sweet Baby’s Arms,” featuring Buck’s right-hand man Don Rich on the fiddle:

I totally agree with you ((Country music was much better because he and Bakersfield gave us a viable alternative to the “Nashville Sound.”)). I've always liked Buck and not just because he redid "Act Naturally" with Ringo.

Two points I have to NOT give you. First, Buck Owens wasn't one of my favorites. Mom and dad had his albums and watched his program on TV, but I made sure I was else where. Secondly, you were lucky that the allergist's office called 24 hours before your appointment. My doctor's office called me two hours before my appointment with him on May 10th. I haven't seen him in person since March 5th of this year. I was referred to a doctor 55 miles away, it was to be a phone visit. The appointment clerk called me 30 minutes later and changed that appointment to 3 hours later with an RN, then 45 minutes I got called back and the appointment had been changed again to another day and time. I think I might have been speaking to the janitor the next day. I haven't seen the original doctor since March 5th and won't see him until August 9th of this year. I need medication refills and more...I get to the point that If I could find an unoccupied porch that I could crawl under I'd do so. I sure don't mean much to the medical profession except a couple of bucks!!!!

AND if YOU cancel an appointment that quickly they charge YOU. Oh, I’ve had them call as I was closing my gate to leave for the appointment to cancel it.

@FourWalls Don't you just love it? And they chew us out if we don't give them 24 hours notice!!!! I did have one receptionist look at me and ask what I was doing there, and when I said I had an appointment she said "We called and canceled it". I argued the point and showed her the card, the gal canceling the appointments looked at me, turned white, and uttered "Oh SH-T!!! I knew I forgot someone!!!!!". I got rid of the doctor too.

I think you already know the story about how my friend and former band mate was kicked out of Buck Owens's bar in Bakersfield.

My Dad loved country music so we heard a fair bit of it as kids. I still love it.

Great talent but that high nasal twang is understandably not everyone's "cup of tea" as they say.
