AI as a tool in writing?

What are your thoughts on using AI as a tool to express thoughts in writing? For me, I don't mind using AI to rephrase or correct writing. However, using AI to generate stories without any input from the author is a definite no-go. Are you comfortable using these AI platforms?

No. I am not comfortable with AI at all. It seems wrong in every way, and makes it nearly impossible to tell reality from fantasy. I detest AI generated tool as well. And AI art just isn’t real art, either. I guess I am getting older, I like original things put together from real people without AItools.

I understand your concerns about AI. Your preference for original, human-created work is valid and reflects your values.

@hexeduser22 In my heydays, I took art classes and enjoyed learning about how 'real' art is created, colors, shading, and on and on...things to enhance one's creations to make them special--but things the artist did with whatever medium they chose to use. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever dream a person would create art with an online tool. I have, however, noticed that AI art cannot be copyrighted to that person for the most part, I hope it stays that way.

@hexeduser22 I probably would not know the first thing about it, I'm afraid.

I feel as you do. I don't think AI should be used to generate anything. I have used it on one occasion as a tool. I had a sentence that I couldn't quite make sense. I used an AI to give me ideas as to rewording it. I mostly ignored those ideas and came up with something better anyway I can see how you might use it as you would, say, a dictionary or thesaurus. Using it to generate an entire thing, that seems pointless to me.

I do not mind it but scholars and what not hate it. They have a point, they want you to think for yourself. Not only that but to make sure you understand grammar, in which I say I have never been able to understand English grammar.

I feel the same! I try to expose myself to communities like MyLot and learn along the way. I believe that experience is still the best teacher. A little AI help from time to time isn't that bad, and it's definitely a way to learn English too.

Using it as an assistant of sorts, fine, but writing is more than cold mechanics, definitely needs the human touch.

Most people think using it for writing seems like cheating

You're not alone on this but I did play around with it for a while. It helped me find the right spreadsheet formula to complete a project
