7/25/24 - Update On My Husband

They really worked my husband hard in PT yesterday. He did steps again and did them well. He got into bed by himself but with an aide standing by. My husband thinks that he could come home in a week or so. We shall see. I am getting the house ready for him. The steps and railings on the front porch should be ready by then.
A while ago the Council on Aging sent us a list of Home Health Aide agencies. The rates run from $24-$34 per hour. I've never been real keen on having strangers in the house; so I'm going to approach my husband's second cousin (our housekeeper's mother) to see if she would be interested. She was a nurse for 20 years and could take my husband's vitals, cook a couple of meals for us, bring my husband his meals and something to drink and stand by when my husband gets in and out of his chair. Something to think about. I will call her today and run this idea by her.
The medical records were ready; and hubby's 2nd cousin picked them up and sent them Priority to the judge. She chose 1 day delivery on her own; and it was $44+. Oh well. At least it will get there on time. I have no idea when the physical therapy records will be done. Everything must be there by July 29.
Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts.

@LindaOHio Maybe if you can get someone for that, and then if he has anything that he needs done that he isn't comfortable asking a relative to help with, he can use that person. I believe that it will take a bit for him to transition from the facility back to home, but with restrictions due to his health. I know that you will do everything that you can to help with the transition.

@Juliaacv His cousin said she would help him bathe; but I don't know how he'll feel about THAT!

You need one of those signs that says, “When this is over I’m going to have a nervous breakdown. I worked for it, I earned it, and nobody can deprive me of it.”

@LindaOHio — we have a 120-foot tall baseball bat leaning against the Louisville Slugger Museum, if you need to borrow it….

I'm surprised I'm handling it as well as I am.

@FourWalls There are a couple of people on the staff at the facility that I could use it on.

I hope that the talk with your husband's cousin goes well and she agree for it. Even I am not comfortable having strangers in my home. It would be good to have some known person to nurse him and take care of you two. I am praying that your husband will come home soon

I know the idea of strangers is scarry, but if your husband needs more help then one person can provide, having choices helps. You can interview the prospects, and get more information about their services. Maybe have someone come out and meet you and your husband, before he comes home.

@LindaOHio I am glad she is. Just think about long term, his cousin is only one person.

@LindaOHio They paid for one for my grandmother who was living with my parents. It was cheaper for Medicare/government to pay for someone to be at the house with her while they were at work rather than her being in a nursing home.
