I am an impulsive cook

I start with a basic recipe, and just keep adding things. We always end up with something we will eat, but not necessarily something I would take to a potluck, for instance. I am working on a breakfast/snack cake right now. I started with a basic banana bread recipe, but I have added almonds, almond flour, almond extract and cocoa powder and an extra banana, and extra milk to get the consistency I wanted. That will be my breakfast, today. I think it will be great and it is a healthier way to get that chocolate fix that I am always wanting. I am baking it in a 9x13 pan. I thought about adding chocolate chips, and maybe will do that another time. Bob says a recipe is mostly meant to be a suggestion. I did look up chocolate banana bread and that is where I got the amount of cocoa powder to add. I was not going to add enough. So that is what I am up to this morning. Bob is still in bed. I have had a cup of coffee, and I just ate a few almonds, but I am waiting for my goodies to come out of the oven. Then I will enjoy my food.

@much2say Yeah, I tend to buy candy every time I go to Dollar General. Shame on me.

I usually stick pretty close to a recipe unless I am making something like pasta salad. I kind of make that up on the fly.

I read that your banana bread turned out really well so that's good. I sometimes want to add things but have no idea how much to add.

I looked up similar recipes. Originally I was not going to add enough cocoa. I have a pretty much no fail banana bread recipe I start with.

Bob is right, and these are my sentiments exactly. As I always like to say, before it was a recipe, it was an idea.

This time of year you have to bake early to not heat the house too much.

I agree with Bob's statement. A suggestion. Your recipe sound like something I would want to pour milk over and have with a cup of coffee on the side.

I am afraid the milk would make it too soggy, but it would be worth a try.
