Happy Friday! I’m enjoying the delicious smoked turkey at Mark’s Feed Store and getting ready to spring another one of those great Texans on you. I guess you folks who don’t like country music can find solace in the fact that three of the top five are rockers. 
Here’s today’s artist.
#6: Guy Clark
@NJChicaa ? FOJB (Friend of Jimmy Buffett)! Guy Clark wrote “Cinco de Mayo in Memphis,” so don’t give me that “nope” stuff. 
(He also wrote “Boats to Build,” which JB recorded with Alan Jackson.)
Guy Clark wrote “Heartbroke,” a hit for Ricky Skaggs (and also covered by the likes of George Strait and Rodney Crowell). Vince Gill’s hit “Oklahoma Borderline” was co-written with Clark. Then there was “Desperadoes Waiting for a Train.” What. A. Song.
When Clark finally lost his battle with lymphoma in 2016, singer/songwriter/radio host Otis Gibbs referred to him as “a giant oak tree in a town full of plastic flowers.” You’ve heard of people referred to as “a songwriter’s songwriter”? Guy Clark was the songwriter for the songwriter’s songwriter. And then some.
