Thursday evening, Jay and I stopped at the gas station to fill up. The weather was so beautiful, I had kept my window down, while my husband pumped the gas. In the distance towards farm land, I heard a rooster crow. I asked Jay, "Did you hear that rooster crowing?" He said that he'd heard it. Then, I heard it two more times. This brought back some wonderful memories of spending time on my maternal grandma's farm in the country. Grandma always had scads of white chickens out in the yard, with one rooster struttin' among the hens. When grandma asked me which chicken to behead for dinner, I pointed out the rooster. Of course she said NO, but didn't go into any details why not. So, I had to select a different chicken. It was delicious Photo: Borrowed from Pixabay

I don't think I could inspect the chicken I was about to eat. Yikes! Have a good weekend.

The only chicken my grandmother served, was from her own flock. That's what farmers raised them for, meat and for eggs.

Roosters do strut around, don't they? I can't really remember the last time I heard a rooster crowing. I guess it was when we were house-sitting somewhere.

I may have heard a rooster crow at the state fair last year. I am not too sure.

What a handsome rooster. He reminds of one my grandparents had. I recall one time my mom got the ax and chopped off the head of one of the chickens. Needless to say, the tale is true about whether chickens actually do run around for a few seconds after their heads have been chopped off.
