I Wonder!

I got the binoculars out this afternoon and looked at the pond just beyond our patio. to search for the elusive alligator that is supposed to be in the pond. Something was moving in the pond. It looked just a little bit big. Maybe it was a gator's head. I watched for an hour until it came closer. It was not a gator. It looked all the world like an old shoe. It sank in front of me and did not come back up. That leaves me to wonder about something else. Where was that shoe before? No one is allowed to swim there but some people walk along the bank. Should I look for the other shoe? How big is this invisible alligator? Does your imagination ever work overtime? What do you think? What is lurking somewhere near you?

We have gators all over the place. We're always on the lookout for them.

I live in Florida. I have heard that each body of water has gators in it. People claim that there is one or more in that pond. I have never seen one for sure. Do your gators live close to you? We have a pond just beyond the patio.

@akalinus I live in Florida, too. Actually I am not sure if there are gators in the pond near us, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were. We had a man-made lake or something at the Breakers, that once housed a gator. One of my neighbors at the time decided to dubb it "fluffy"

@kaylachan A gator named Fluffy? Now, I have heard everything. If there is a gator in our pond, I want to see it for sure and not mistake it for an old shoe.

I'd never go down by that bank, knowing an alligator could be living there.

It is kind of steep and I have a gimpy leg from when I fell so I don't try to go down there. I would probably end up in the pond.

@kobesbuddy Okay. I will be watchful, even on the patio. I hope I get to go out there sometime. It is always raining lately. Even when the sun is out, everything is soaked.

@akalinus Gators are quick! They can dive at a victim a long distance, out of the water.

Maybe the alligator lost its shoe . I freak out when I see an opossum lurking along our walls in the backyard. They won't do anything, but sometimes their faces scare me - they just freak me out .

@akalinus Opossums were actually in your kitchen ? Unwanted dinner guests . . . how did you get them out?

@much2say I found a baby in the waste basket. I took it to a nearby field and let it go. I chased the others and found the hole that they got in through. I boarded that up when they left. A couple of days later, a neighbor told me that she found opossums in her kitchen. I don't know what happened to all of them. They suddenly moved on to better pickings.

Yes, that's it. I think you solved the mystery. Once, I saw two opossums fighting over Ramen noodles in my kitchen. I did not try to save the noodles for my dinner.

It's like me wanting to go look for Nessie in Loch Ness. My imagination is always working overtime. Have a good weekend.

@LindaOHio I hope the burgers weren't once Nessie. What would you do if you heard a noise and Nessie was standing there looking at you?

@akalinus Definitely. I would like to go watch for him/her and buy souvenirs. I think they even have Nessie Burgers there.

That would make me very curious. It's funny that the shoe, if it was one, drifted nearer then disappeared.

I have never seen anything like that before. Sometimes, I see a bird acting weird or a huge turtle or squirrel using the patio for who knows what. I hope it was not a shoe. I would hate to think the pond is becoming a garbage dump. I hope the shoe's owner is okay.
