It's a Gorton's Fish Night

I admit, it's not a fish fry. I am from Wisconsin, and one thing we know is a fish fry. Since moving to Illinois over 10 years ago, it has been one of my biggest disappointments here. They absolutely do not know what a real fish fry is. Luckily, I know how to do a proper beer battered fish fry and absolutely do one on occasion. But it's a bit time consuming and messy, so it's not like it is something I am going to do every single week. But the wife and I have still been making Fridays a somewhat fish night nonetheless. Our fish of choice are Gorton's fish filets which I will usually make with some tater tots, and we'll serve them slathered with a little tartar sauce with some ketchup to compliment the tater tots. It's what's for dinner tonight. I have one more package in the freezer downstairs, so I guess I will add it to the shopping list to get some more. It's not a fish fry by any stretch of the imagination. But it is better than anything we could ever get here, and considering a bag of 10 filets generally runs about under $7, it is also fairly economical. It fills the bill anyway. What's going on your dinner table tonight? Or what did you have last night depending on when you read this?

Salmon is my favorite fish to eat. But the wife doesn't like it so I never cook it and only ever get it when we eat out and it is on the menu.

@porwest I’m lucky that everyone in my household loves salmon. We’d probably eat it every night if it was more affordable.

@moffittjc I know I'd be eating it way more often on both counts.

I fry trout and salmon once in a while but it has nothing to do with a wonderful way that Leticia fried less expensive fish and turned them to glory.

@porwest I would not dream of a breaded salmon. I just put some butter and oil in the pan and some salt on the salmon (no other spices). I fry it, turn it, fry it and that´s all. The fried fish that Leticia does is breaded with all the trimmings. And it is another kind of fish.

For some reason, fried salmon just sounds like weird, unless you are just saying frying it in a pan with no breading. Just never heard of breaded salmon before. Not that it would be bad, I am just not sure I'd ever want to do that to such a good piece of fish.

It sounds so good, even if it is not the "real thing" .We ate early. Leftover Jansen's temptation, and I do not remember what else. Fruit of some kind I am sure.

Oh no. Definitely not the real thing, but certainly also has its place. So, what's Jansen's temptation?

It has been awhile since I had that but I do like the Gorton's frozen fried fish fillets.

They really are good. Not anything like the real thing, of course. But like I mentioned to someone else, they still have their place. Plus, to boot, they're quick and easy.

Whenever I want fish that is my only option, Fresh fish are expensive and they need to be used right away, Sometimes I buy the Gortons to keep in the fridge, I had some bratwurst and tater tots,

I rarely buy fresh fish anymore. But you're right, it's expensive no matter how you buy it.

I'm not a big fish eater; but I do enjoy fish sticks and tater tots on occasion. I had my usual PB&J sandwich for dinner and Meals on Wheels for lunch. Have a good weekend.

I LOVE fish. If it were cheaper, I'd definitely eat it way more often than I do.
