I need hearing aids

It's been a while since I was here. A variety of things have happened. The one I'm talking about here is my hearing. My daughter has been nagging me about getting my hearing checked. She kept saying I was deaf and she was tired of repeating herself. I knew I had reduced hearing, but still didn't think it was bad enough to warrant being checked. But, I went to my doctor three months ago and learned that I have NO bone conductive hearing. I only have ear hearing. Our bodies use both methods to intercept sound and together we get a complete picture of what we're hearing. I had no idea that we actually heard through our skull bone. I knew that they could give deaf people back some hearing using a hearing aid that sent sound through the bone, but I didn't know that we're SUPPOSED to have than when things are working correctly. I really had no idea! I have a hearing test tomorrow and am supposed to be fitted for a hearing aid or have a decision made on what I actually need on the 1st. I'm looking forward to hearing fully without missing words people say to me. Have you had hearing loss? Did you need to get a hearing aid or was there a medical issue they were able to resolve? (I know it's all medical - I mean like infection or ear wax.) My doctor said my ears looked perfectly healthy, so I suspect mine is a physical issue with my bones. I always figured I'd killed off all the sound carrying cilia (tiny hairs) while I was in the band. I always sat in front of the brass or the drums. Lots of loudness. I'll learn more, tomorrow, I guess.

Thankfully no. I rely a lot on my hearing.

In many ways, I do as well. I listen for our pets doing wrong or the cat throwing up. I used to be able to figure out the direction of the sound, but not so much now for obvious reasons. I used to listen for my kids getting into trouble when they were little. I could usually tell they were up to something by what I'd hear.

@jerzgirl I can still hear things from a great distance. I don't really have eyesight so it's like my superpower.

@kaylachan My eyesight is also diminished, but so far, it's correctable. I need to get a diabetic eye test and check on a cataract that has begun.

I've heard they had them. I'm not a member. I'll learn more about what I'm to do on the 5th.
