Short story: The search for God can never substitute itself for God

John Fredlink, a student of various religions, and spiritual teachings, was a seeker, still, looking for something worthy enough for him to become a member of.
One day, he was sitting, resting against a large old oak tree, when he had an experience, where he thought that the tree was giving him a message from God.
At first, he thought that he must be imagining things, or maybe that he was going a little bit mad, but he could definitely hear this old tree whispering a message to him.
Anyway, he just sat there and listened then, as what did it matter where the message was really coming from, if the quality of the message was indeed worthy of being listened too, he thought to himself.
"The world only works when the works of God are working with it, and his works come in three ways, through his love to you, and to his creation, through your connection to him, via your serving him, and from your love, compassion, and kindness shown to your fellow man."
The student was listening so intently to what he thought was the old tree talking to him, that he was ignorant then of what was going on around him.
There were ants crawling up his legs, and biting his ankles.
There were birds in the tree, dropping their excrement onto his cap.
He was lost in oblivion to everything, but the tree's message, which he thought was something special, and sacred enough to warrant his full attention to it.
The tree then cracked off an acorn that fell, and hit him on his chest, but even this, the student ignored.
A small branch was loosed, and fell on his head, which at last was enough to bring him out of his swooning.
The tree then said.
"No message is worth blocking off any other message to you, and the ant's message to you was as important as mine was; ignore nothing, take all in, that is my final word to you, my son."
said the old tree.
The man got up, brushed off the ants, and went down to the river, and washed his cap there; then he walked home again, and he never searched for anything again, as he was contented with the message of the tree, and would thereafter live more attentively, and awarely, to his surroundings, and how they connected him to something greater than just to himself.
This something was God.
We all need to live connected to God, and not connected to the search for God, instead of to actually God.

Connect to God, connect to nature too, but not at the expense of God. Do not see the trees, and not its maker.

Do you think God really believes that, I do get why people think Trump is God. In white mans bible Trump sounds right if he could speak right. I kind of get why people worship him even though I disagree.

Trump likes to blow his own trumpet, and bang on his own chest to make a noise.
Perhaps, he has become something like a cult leader, and people worship him, because they are enamoured by him, and entranced by the beat of his drum.
He is a long way from being God though, and to my mind, he is closer to being that old nemesis of God's, the devil.

@innertalks I would have to agree but that is a good point too, can't the devil just sound like god? Same family?

@crossbones27 That is true, they started off being brothers in arms, and if the truth is known, they might still be so, as the Devil seems to be more just a devil's advocate, perhaps still acting for God to test the metal of his creation in a sort of a way.
If the Devil wasn't useful to God, he would have removed his presence, if he was really harming the world here.
We all sit somewhere in between the Devil and God, I guess, in our own way.

Ah, so it is the destination, not the journey, after all? I always thought so but it's nice to have confirmation.

@innertalks It's also good to ensure that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train.

I have always thought so too, as the journey is a waste of time, most of the time, especially if we are barking at the wrong tree.
We need to see the light at the end of the tunnel first before we ever think of going through the tunnel.
We need the right destination in sight, as the journey is always a blind one otherwise.

Yes, it is sad, as they are looking at the creator's work, but still do not see him.
God is everywhere to be seen; we just need the eyes to see him, and the heart to accept him as being there too.

As the Chinese saying goes, think of the source when we drink water.
Likewise, when we look around, we need to doff our hats to the one who wears many hats to keep us going.
God reaches out to us through many ways - both seen and unseen.
The least we can do is to be grateful for the blessings.
Let us remember the sixth sense and not get overwhelmed by the five

Nicely put, siva.
Yes, we need to keep our sixth sense open and alive in us, and not block off our soul connection to God, via our intuition, gut feelings, and inner knowings.

@Shiva49 Yes, real meaning can only ever come to us from our inner knowing, via God, never from any externality.

@innertalks Thanks Steve, the only way to find meaning in our lives.
Otherwise, we will be wasting and ignoring our inner knowing

Yes, I like to think that too, that God is always there to help us in our lives.
