People Who Try to Provoke You

In life, if you look back, you'll see how many people said or did something to provoke a response. Abusive husbands have this as a science. They get the wife to react, then respond to her with violence. Their justification is that she provoked him. He leaves out his actions which set the stage. The wife is to feel that 'she caused it.' When Bosses want to fire you they'll often say something so you respond and can be labeled 'insubordinate' and terminated. Online, it is the same thing. You have to realize this. Don't respond. . The man across the road parked to block access. He expected a response so he can make a scene. I realized it instantly and having another route, took it. Subsequently I thanked him for making me go in the other direction. He never parked there again. It that wasn't evidence of his attempt to get a rise out of me, I don't know what is.

It is the best advice I have ever received to not respond to comments I make on social media that in my view are not harmful.

What I do online is maybe post 'nope' or 'uh huh' and nothing more. Oh they get so angry!

@jaylar That is true since a bully get neutralized when the offended party does not answer them.

I absolutely agree, the abuser of any kind is LOOKING for a reaction! They don't like when they don't get it.

@jaylar I'm married to a narcissist so I know all about the reactions some want.

Exactly. The anger the guy was emanating when I thanked was practically visible. And the fact he never parked there again is so powerful

Sometime I wonder whether they have fun by doing so or they've been paid or it is simple how they are the best way is not respond at all

sometimes they are paid. on some writing sites which pay they'll get their dual to attack, you'll respond and they'll kick you off and you might not get your earnings.

i agree with you. some people enjoy provoking but taking no action, as you advised is the best; not always easy, but best solution.

the best way to deal with them is "don't get provoked and don't respond to them", just ignore them

Yes, precisely

most people always provoke unnecessary trouble, even when we react to their actions, we are the ones who will be judged. some people can't even stop being manipulative. we should always be patient and walk away. they will always take the opportunity to make us angry

Exactly. For that man it was planned, it was deliberate, and set to provoke. If I had responded as expected I'd be the worst person... it is unbelievable that he ceased to park there after I thanked him.

The man was probably mad that you went another way. I ignore people like that and do not react.

he was so mad... I didn't say a word for days and then... came up with this big smile on my face and he was completely off balance. And never parked there again. That's the amazing part. He'll park some distance in either direction but not near the access.

You did the right thing and told him to make sure that he won't repeat that again.
