8/13/24 - Update On My Husband

Tried to call the facility doctor twice but held forever. Mondays are not the days to call. Spoke with one of the nurses, trying to find out when my husband will be out of quarantine. She said to call back tomorrow. Sigh.
Still can't place the order for the grab bar. Spoke with a handyman we used once before. He said he wouldn't take the job because we have a fiberglass insert shower. Unless the studs are right up against the shower, you will punch a hole in the wall of the shower when you go to install the grab bar. Food for thought.
Received the August bill for my husband's room. Another $9,300.
Called the concrete/handrail guy again; and once again he didn't call me back. I'm sure he's busy; but he should call me.
I bought a foot/arm cycle for my husband to use. It's the kind that you sit in a chair and pedal or put on a table and pedal with your arms. It came yesterday.
Hubby didn't call last night so I don't know how PT went. After being in bed for 11 days, I can't imagine that it went well.
Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

I have one of those foot/arm cycles and it does help. Plus it's easy to use.
Hope you hear from the concrete guy.
Who would have thought that getting a grab bar for the shower would be such a headache.
Hope you hear from your hubby today.

Still waiting to hear from the concrete guy. The grab bar order cancelled again; and Walmart gave me a $25 credit. Spoke with my hubby. PT is not going well for him.

I use one all the time. I can't stand for more than a minute.

Ye-owch. I’d still be asking for some adjustments on those bills for the days he wasn’t in the facility.

@LindaOHio — “all” your husband’s stuff, minus what all’s being stolen.

They won't give credit for that because they were holding the room for him and they are unable to give it to someone else because all my husband's stuff is there.

My hubby wonders if the fiberglass wall couldn't be pushed up against the stud so the grab bar could be installed? I am not a fix it person so don't ask me. I like the idea of the shower bench even as I know you need something to grab that will NOT move. Take care.

@LindaOHio I have seen a pole set up that goes clear to the ceiling. I'm not sure how that is done to make it firm.

@sallypup I've seen those. They are usually spring loaded.

I've used a shower chair for years. Someone told me there is a method called a solid mount for installing in fiberglass showers.

That hand and foot cycle is a great idea. Might be good for me to have here for winter. I am glad the handyman was able to tell you straightforward what you are up against in the way of grab bars. I have seen them installed just outside the shower wall rather than through it. I know it depends on where the studs are. One of my clients when I worked as residential support for the adult disabled had a grab handle that was held to the fiberglass by a very strong suction cup. It did come down once, but that was after years of use and you just cleaned it and put it back up. Maybe something like that would work.

I'd be nervous relying on the suction cup bar. Someone told me there is a method for putting grab bars up in a fiberglass shower called the solid mount method.

Yeah, that's a rough one. My husband and I bought our grab bars at Home Depot and our neighbor put them in for us.

Home Depot and Lowe's both have installers. I may have to bite the bullet and buy the bar from them and pay more for installation.

I'm sorry everything is so hard to get done! The gym we go to has an armcycle machine, and I really like using it.

I don't trust a suction cup bar. Someone told me there is a solid mount method for installing grab bars in fiberglass showers.
