Why does everybody want a million bucks these days to perform a service?

So, I took my ailing laptops to Best Buy for a service since one just needs a mouse update. I tried doing it, but it didn't work..was blocked by Microsoft. That is the other thing, it won't update windows. Both of those seem like relatively easy fixes to me. 20 years ago you could walk into Best Buy and if it wasn't something terribly difficult they would help you over the counter..now, you are supposed to make an appointment with the Geek Squad. I didn't and they weren't busy..and the guy was telling me it would be 100 dollar diagnostic charge! Plus any work or updates they do.Other places that repair things like large appliances or cars, might charge that, but usually they will wave the diagnostic fee if they repair your item. Anyway, that is just one example everybody and their brother seems to have raised their rates. Anyway, I will talk to my son about it. He can probably walk me through doing it. No way am I paying Geek Squad. I could get another puter for what they wanted to charge! Any problem with services on your end?

I’m blessed to have two technology inclined men in my life that fix any computer issue I have. One handles the IT for a local university, and the other, my brother-in-law, does the IT for a non profit. Otherwise, I would be up the creek without a paddle. I am so bad with computers, phones, or whatever it is.

It freezes..I am talking about the internal one that comes with the device. I was just sitting here thinking if I could plug in an external one and use that? I have one in the other room.

That is high. I have found that anyone who uses their debit or credit card to pay for the Geek Squad services, has reoccurring transactions after the fact from them. Buyer beware. They store your card information in their system without your knowledge.

Well, I have no intent on using them after that little drama. I think I did many years ago when they came to the house.

I have noticed that the people in Geek Squad cars tend to be bad drivers. I don't trust them.

I have no intention of being a Geek Squad customer. Friend doesn't like them either.

Everything is expensive these days. I've had to have several contractors come to the house to do various things; and I've spent a bundle. Have a good day.

I am so spoiled when it comes to computer problems. My son is an IT guy and has a degree in engineering as well, when I have a computer problem I can’t fix, he always takes care of it. I am very thankful for his knowledge to keep my stuff going. I hope you and your son can fix it, Snowy.

I may just opt for a plug in mouse. That may work.

@snowy22315 Son has tried to convert me several times to a wireless mouse. I honestly prefer the one that plugs in to my computer.

Yup. Everybody demands 50.00 an hour for the rookies and the price goes up for the guy who might know something.

Arrgh! It makes me grateful for my little garage here who always undercharges for car repairs.

We've had a check from an insurance company and two banks saying they've over-charged us and will be in touch. I think our Anti-Corruption Commission/whatever is putting the fear of God into some of these institutions. One amount is quite substantial but we hadn't picked up that anything was wrong.

Well, most of the stores are now owned by corporate policies . They want to make money for even an iota of work. This helps to increase revenue apart from their store sales. The margin they earn from store sales is limited and cannot be overcharged. That is not the case , with after sales services. Gone are the days when they would value the customer and give due consideration on what needs to be done and all. Only a few stores have consideration for customer and rest all are interested in money making . In these days, it is better to have someone who can understand technical details and fix it , even if it means with the help of tutorial or youtube videos.
