Our Neighbor's Dog was Euthanized

We have backyard neighbors by the name of James and Sharie. They owned a Great Dane, named Hailey that would soon be eleven years old. That's incredible!
She got quite feeble, so they took Hailey to the vet. They discovered Hailey had a blood clot behind her heart and she was full of cancer. There was no hope left.
Instead of bringing her home, they asked the vet to please euthanize this dog. There was no possibility that she could live much longer. They loved her very much, Hailey was well cared for.
I think the life expectancy of a Great Dane is at the most, 8 years. She had a very good life!
I will miss seeing James walking her at City Park each day

Pet loss isn't easy. I wish the grieving family my best as they navigate this recent loss.

@kobesbuddy I know, that thinking you see and hear them after they're gone. I'm sure you will. She sounded like it.

At ten years old, they are definitely reaching their maximum time.

I am sorry for the loss of Hailey. She sounds like she was a wonderful pet and much loved, it will be hard for James to get used to her being gone.
The last dog I lost happened very suddenly. She was a lovely Swedish Lapphund, all black and so fluffy. Very smart! And OH, so devoted to me. Let's put it this way--I did nothing alone if I was home with her! She was almost 14. Had never been sick, always had her check ups and shots. One day she didn't want to eat, and vomited some blood, so we went to the vet right away. It got long, complicated, and expensive, but later that day via some x-rays and scans, it was revealed that she had a cancerous tumor on her liver, and several abdominal tumors as well. The liver one was very bad and not operable, he said she was in pain and it was so advanced she couldn't live more than a few days. I had to let her go, it ripped me apart...this was one of many pets I loved and had for a long time, but it was the last one I lost, it's so hard.

James had a long face, when he knocked on our door. I started crying, Hailey was such a special girl! James said, "She was my little girl!"

I hope that maybe his heart can heal enough to rescue a nice dog to have for a pet at some point.

That's so sad to hear, but I would have done the same thing just
to keep her from suffering with what life she had left, sometimes we have
to make some hard real decisions & that's the hardest 1's to make with pets.

When pets are in pain or have no hope to recover, it's best to let go of them.

Bigger dogs have shorter life spans and it is never long enough. With her illnesses this was a kindness.

Yes, cancer inside of Hailey would progressively take her life.

Cancer is fatal, in an older dog. Younger dogs, also.

I’m so sorry. I always say that our final act of love toward a pet is the worst one…we end their agony at the expense of our own.

Euthanizing a pet is an act of love. When they experience nothing but pain, it's time to let go.
