I had a lovely dinner. Teaching our kids about food.

I found some Brussel sprouts in my fridge so I steamed some and then I added a bit of butter. They were delicious. Later on I´ll eat a piece of cake but not now. I still have the wonderful taste of the sprouts in my mouth. I have discovered that people either love or hate Brussel sprouts. There is nothing in the middle. I love them and have loved them ever since my mom made them for company and there was some leftovers for us, kids, the next day. When I was a child I did not like much the normal food we HAD to eat and not leave a crumb on the plate. Along generations I have heard mothers say the same dumb sentences to their children so that they would eat their food. They talked about the poor children of (there the part of the world would change) and how they did not have food to eat. I think that when my children were small, I used Biafra as the poor place. I still don´t know where Biafra is and my kids couldn´t care less. I learned a bit when I was a grandmother. Instead of saying that, I told the children to eat 4 spoonfulls of whatever the dish they did not like was on the table. If they did not like it after trying it, I had something else for them to eat. Usually it was a favorite such as pasta with pesto. It was a much better idea. How did you make your children eat? I heard of a boy that was on hot dogs for about 4 years until he himself decided to try something different.

If my kids did not like something I did not make them eat it at all.

My husband and his siblings would tell their Mum to send the food to the starving children, wherever they were!

Answering back was not a good idea at my house. And my mother only cooked what my father liked.

That sound a lot more reasonable. But that wasn´t done in my time. My mom cooked enough food for everyone and we did not have a fridge so she could not keep leftovers.

My children ate pretty much whatever I fixed, except for liver. They never liked it. My husband loves brussel sprouts! I eat them, also.

@kobesbuddy My favorite is fried chicken liver, fried in very hot oil so that it is juicy inside. And I marinate it with crushed garlic.

@marguicha Pork liver is my favorite, it's even better than beef liver.

My niece likes to eat chicken nuggets. I'm still eating veggies for 14 years straight.

I once ate chicken nuggets from a certain brand and I liked them. Then I forgot the brand name and bought something else and had to give them to Luna. I make my own delicious chicken nuggets.

well, yes, in order to raise us not to be picky, our mums said these stories. my mum changed over time and also said that if i can't eat something, i have other things to eat. not forcing to eat one food is a good method.

@grenery8 I remember that I hated those bland overcooked veggies they made at home. But I loved rabbit casseroles made by my grandma and other dishes that are usually only liked by grownups.

I cannot stand Brussel sprouts. I’ve tried hard to give them a chance my making a few different recipes with them but they are just so putrid tasting . Wonderful you love them though I think they are quite good for you.

Only last night I steamed a whole dish of them al dente, added lots of butter and some salt and brought them to my bedroom to watch TV while I ate them.

I have often thought about that. When I was a child I could not eat most veggies. Now many of them are favorites.

I don't have kids so I never had to deal with that. I didn't like brussel sprouts as a kid but I do now when they are roasted. Add a balsamic glaze and I will devour the entire bowl.

When I was a child I though cauliflower was disgusting. Now it is one of my favorite veggies.

I love Brussels sprouts. I ate very little variety when I was younger. I made up for that! Have a great day.

I prepare them in many ways but usually I want so much to eat them that I just add butter and salt when they are hot.

My mom only cooked what everybody liked to eat. However, there was that time my mom made a lasagna that we didn't want to tell her how bad it bad and she admitted it was bad without us telling her. She bought frozen lasagna for us after that My parents just expected my sister and me to behave and other than that, they didn't have a lot of rules about anything.
