What is all the yelling about!

So, I'm sitting at my desk, trying to work on a story and suddenly I hear one of my cats just yowling and meowing. So, I get up and see who it is - I kinda know who it isn't, voices ya know. And there is Heidi. Now, Heidi, since the death in June of Elizabeth, is now the oldest cat. She's right about 12, born sometime around the end of August-ish. And she's making all this noise. And she's acting like she's caught something. So, I turn on the big kitchen light and there is **something** hanging out of her mouth. It isn't big, then she dropped it. And... it is a really tiny lizard. I kind of think it is a gecko - where geckos came from I don't know, never saw them when I was a kid. She picks it up again and drops it. I reach down and try to grab it... and she knocks it out of my hand and grabs it again. And continues to yell. I threw my hands up, told her to eat it and left the kitchen. All is quiet now so I guess it is either dead or eaten. Living with cats... just so much fun. Your pets bring in a snack sometimes?

One of my cats used to have in his mouth a deceased bird when he would walk into the home from the outside front door.

I have inside only cats, with a catio, so things can get caught. My opinion is that IF the lizard, snake, mouse, rat, bird, etc. comes into my catio, well, it smells of cat!

My two brats are pampered, spoiled, inside babies. They aren't allowed outside to do anything including hunt. Freya will chase flies when they manage to come inside, but that's about the extent of her hunting. As for a gecko or lizard if either of them caught one I definitely wouldn't let them keep them and eat them. The cats can't digest lizards too well according to their vet. So they have to be satisfied with their Temptations outta the bag. I need to get up and give them a few, it's been a few days since I've given them any. Between the virus I picked up that has had me laid out for a week and then the seizure that had me not active for two days, not too much has happened around here. I'm hoping today to get a ride to get some groceries, my prescriptions, and quarters to do laundry (BOY DO I NEED TO DO LAUNDRY!!!!!) If my pair got out I doubt that they would find much to catch anyhow. The area is bare of prey. I am extremely careful around the door, Petey and Freya are too precious to me...if I lived further back from the main road maybe, but not on a main thoroughfaire that people do 50 and 60 mph on (in town).

I tried to take it away, but she slapped it out of my hand. That was as much as I was willing to dare. She wants the lizard, at least it is a baby.

@BearArtistLady last night I was sitting at my computer and a fly landed on the monitor. I swatted at it and missed, not by much. Since flies have very little brains, all the avoiding things are hardwired, the thing landed on the monitor again. I didn't miss. I'm on a mission to kill flies in the house. If they aren't in the house, that is different, but if I see one in a spider's web, I support the spider. As for the gecko, well, probably 99% die before they get much older than the one Heidi had. Did I want Heidi to eat it, no, but obviously an 11 year old cat is faster with her paws than I am getting the lizard away from her. She can have it.

@ElicBxn As I was commenting on your gecko, Freya got up in the window and was playing with a fly. Fortunately I have catching them down to a science so I was able to get it in an empty prescription bottle with an index card covering the opening. I dumped it outside quickly. She gets annoyed at my getting rid of them, but gets over it quickly.

Blackie brought in a mouse and my husband caught it with a dust pan and turned it loose outside

@jstory07 I guess Heidi is like Mom's cat, Cat. Cat never caught anything until she was pretty old too

Currently, only Braveheart and Frank play much. I suspect Braveheart would play with Frank more, if Frank would do it. After all, Braveheart is pushing 18 months and Frank is 4-ish. Teeny is 3, but she's afraid of most of the other cats, Boris and Heidi are about her only trustworthy friends. Boris turned 6 end of May, Heidi is 12, that only leaves Onyx at 7 and she doesn't like any of them and the feelings are mutual. Onyx bullies Teeny and Frank bullies Onyx. I'm way more likely to stop Onyx on Teeny since Onyx is probably 13 pounds and Teeny is lucky to be tipping 9. Frank came thin, now he's huge, like a 16 pounder. I just don't have the energy to not free feed.

@cabuyogty Frank and Braveheart do, but picture a fat pale flame-point and a big, fluffy tabby with white paws and a cute blaze. The other 3 are Jonesing for licks. Boris is the mostly likely to give any.

If you consider Juanita my pet*, then yes, she's always bringing me food, not always stuff I would get for myself. *peeve

@BarBaraPrz no there was not! She got the whole lizard in her mouth with only a bit of the tail hanging out. But she sure was loud about it! I was surprised none of the other cats didn't go see what she was yelling about. Well, maybe she was saying "This is my snack! Back off!
