Enhancing Okra: Reducing Stickiness with Onion Juice and Other Cooking Techniques

August 21, 2024 2:03pm CST
Cooking okra often leaves behind a sticky, glue-like texture that can be off-putting both in taste and feel. I once saw someone add onion juice during cooking to reduce this stickiness, though I haven’t tried it myself yet. It makes me curious about how it would affect the flavor. Perhaps there are different varieties of okra, or maybe it’s just a matter of technique. Either way, exploring different methods could make a big difference.

Okra is not a "thing" here. But I had some when I live in the South. Not to my taste.

@TheHorse I should mention that when cooked without that sticky, glue-like texture, okra can actually taste quite delicious. It’s definitely worth trying out if you get the chance!

@runningriz If the lemon works, and I could surround it with onions and a bit of garlic, maybe I'd like it.
