Why I am a Conservative. And why was this guy still out on the streets?

OK, so the person he killed was older: 80-years-old. And a dog lover. But she's still a human being. And I like animal lovers. If he had killed someone in the past, and had something like eight felony convictions, why was he out on the streets? If Kamala is going to get my vote, she'd better have something to say about repeat offenders who wind up back on the streets after killing people. Of course I would never vote for Donald Trump. But if the Republicans trot someone out there who is hard on crime, and can actually articulate what they would do with this kind of offender, I would at least listen to what they had to say. I understand that the economy is doing well, unemployment is down, the stock market is near 40,000, violent crime is down, bla bla bla. But there is no way we should be so lenient toward criminals, particularly violent offenders. If we need more prisons, then let's build them! That means more jobs! What are your thoughts?

I agree with you. You should pose that question to the Democratic Headquarters. Have a good weekend.

Have you clearly stated your policy on this matter?

@TheHorse Violent offenders will be dealt with in a severe manner with sentences to match the crime.

I just think "letting them go" is their solution to overcrowded prisons . . . um, that obviously is not a good, working solution. It's nuts to let violent offenders go on the loose again . . . do they really think these prisoners will be on their best behavior thereafter? Doubtful. Maybe they're hoping for the best ? It's a slap in the face for the victim and their families too. They do need to be kept away . . . prisons in remote areas.

@TheHorse A remote planet would be good. I think there was a Twilight Episode on that.

Yep. We have remote deserts for a reason.

I do not understand it either. The first thing that comes to mind is "crowded prisons."

@TheHorse I do know that except for federal crimes that stuff is handled at the state level. So the president can't do anything. You need to start yelling at the people there

At one time my thoughts were perhaps there would be less crime and killing if the offenders knew that once they stabbed someone umpteen times they would in turn be caught and also stabbed umpteen times, See where I am getting? But than for some reason the though came to me even it free was an eye for an eye system I rather doubt if even that would do anything to deter the crazed killers from wreaking their from of revenge,

I am OK with killers being locked up until they are too old to do damage. If we need to build more prisons, so be it.

I agree. Punishments aren't nearly severe enough for some offences.

It entered my mind that the punishment should match the crime. IE, if the criminal pulls the person from their vehicle, throws them in the path of the vehicle then runs them over with the same vehicle...but too many people would yelp "That's cruel and unusual punishment!!! We can't inflict that on the violent criminal". The same would go for child molesters, rapists, and so on. To punish the criminal with the same kind of violence that they perpetrated on their victim is cruel...yet it was good enough for the criminal to use. Somewhere in the line of logic there is a flaw. It more or less is that "WE" cannot treat the criminal the same way they treated the victim because of it being cruel...so we get to support them in confinement for however long. We pay for their food, medical, lodging, entertainment, etc. The only difference is that they can't walk outside the confinements and catch a plane and fly to Hawaii for a vacation. Uhhh, think about it a while-it's a lot to chew on!!!
