I heard one of those trite pieces of internet wisdom the other day. It's like a platitude people repeat but don't really integrate. We talk the talk but don't walk the walk when it comes to acceptance and equanimity.
"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
Notice it says smile, not laugh. You think of laughter as the opposite of crying, and that is the real wisdom here.
A smile is acceptance. Laughter is not.

In life, I’ve encountered many who talk the talk but fail to walk the walk, reminding me why the phrase "actions speak louder than words" holds so much truth. It's easy to say the right things, to make promises and declarations, but it's in the doing where real character is revealed. Words can be empty, mere echoes in the air, but actions leave footprints that tell the real story. I also believe in the power of a smile—it’s like someone sharing their sunshine with you, a small act of kindness that can brighten even the darkest day. But I’m also aware of the difference between laughing with someone and laughing at them. When someone laughs at you, it’s often a sign of mockery, a way to belittle or undermine. Yet, when someone laughs with you, there’s a shared joy, a connection that speaks of mutual respect and affection. Similarly, when someone cries with you, they are not just witnesses to your pain; they are sharing in it, showing a depth of care and empathy that words alone could never convey. These moments—of shared laughter, shared tears, and consistent action—are the true measures of who loves and cares for you.

It reminds me of how when encountering people on a morning walk, I prefer to smile and nod instead of belting out a robotic "good morning!"

Very wise. Could you just tell me what equanimity means, please?

The official definition is, "mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation."
For me it is resilience and the ability to weather life's storms while avoiding extremes in happiness or sadness. It doesn't mean we are not conscious of the bad or the good, but we treat it all as life with neutral acceptance.
Equanimity is not for everyone :)

@D_avid Wow! Thank you very much for explaining that to me.
Unfortunately I'm on the peri-menopause, which means I have mood swings.
