We have a new neighbor!

I keep seeing a baby western fence lizard scurrying about near the bottom of the stairs that lead to my apartment. I warned him about Kitty (don't tell Kitty), and he hasn't been eaten so far. Baby western fence lizards are quick, but they're also less afraid of humans that adult western fence lizards. Sometimes they will jump on your hand for the warmth. I have had that happen on a couple of hikes with kid clients. So far I have not gotten close enough to this little fella to try putting a hand in front of him while tapping behind him. We'll see what happens. I have told Kitty to at least let him get big and juicy before she goes after him. If I befriended this little lizard, I wonder if she would show restraint. I'll attach a photo of one of these little guys on my hand on the Inspiration Point trail.

You may have more than one new neighbor, where there is one baby lizard, there is likely to be more! Be sure to keep kitty full of treats and yummies, so that she isn't tempted to eat the neighbor!

You have added a new lizard to my lizard repertoire. I found a toad while I was doing yard work today.

@TheHorse We have several different types of lizards here. This one reminds me of a snake. They love the heat and sunbathe on our steps. Our cat Baby is fascinated by them.

They are good at that. This one will "outgrow" me in two weeks.

I think they tend to avoid humans. Unless we look warm to them.

I hope Kitty does not get the baby fence lizard.

I wouldn't bet on Kitty letting this little fellow live but I hope he manages to evade her.
