Well this is awkward

I became close friends with a fellow biology teacher in the building as we were going through divorce at the same time. Very different circumstances and experiences but divorce absolutely sucks. This is the same coworker who gave me kitten Claire a couple of weeks ago.
Actually while I was at her house we were talking on her deck and she was telling me that she had several parent friends complaining about another bio teacher in the department. I told her that I didn't know anything about it since my classroom is down the hall from the rest of the science people in the wing. She said even their children complained. I didn't think much of it as it had nothing to do with me.
The other day I was checking my student rosters and noticed that her son was in my class. Okay. The scheduling program just randomly puts kids in classes. The *other* teacher texted me about something. I responded and told her that the first teacher's son was in my class. She replied that she must have requested to have him moved to my class because he was on *her* class list last week.
AWKWARD! I just played dumb and was like "strange" though I figured it must have had to do with the parent complaints she had heard this summer. So now things will be a bit tricky between them. They are both my friends and well not only do we work in the same building but in the same department and subject.
And this will sound strange but I really don't like having students in my class when I know their parents. It puts pressure on me and I feel like personally responsible if they struggle, fail a quiz/test, etc. It is easier when I don't have a connection to the parents or family members. I like her son but I really wish he wasn't in my class.

I can understand your hesitation to have this student in your class. I hope it doesn't cause any problems for you. Enjoy your holiday today.
