Pirate Bear Finish Art - Marker Phase

The next step in the illustration process was to establish the base colors with marker. The client had chosen specific colors for the bear's fur, the captain's jacket, breeches, boots, and hat, so it was really just a matter of coloring in these choices, with a bit of basic shading to show the form. I chose Ohuhu brand alcohol-based art markers for the colors. I used to use Berol Prismacolor markers, which are very good markers, but I recently learned about the Ohuhu brand from art YouTubers (specifically Jazza, who did head-to-head marker comparisons). It seemed to be as good a product for a lot lower cost, so I bought a small set and absolutely loved them. I've since invested in the largest set (320 colors!) and have been very happy with it. Also extremely important, they do not smudge or smear the Sakura pen ink that is already drawn. The reason I call these "base colors" is that I will switch to a different medium, colored pencils, for the finishing touches. I did do some basic modelling (highlights and shadows) with the markers, but the colored pencils will make the picture smoother and more realistic and three-dimensional-looking.

I always think your artwork is amazing. Do you know what the client will do with this piece? Enjoy the holiday today.

I think this one is for her personal use - I believe it is a memorial piece to honor her boyfriend who passed away a couple of years ago. His name was Ted and she called him Teddy Bear (of course!). I think he and his friends liked to cosplay as pirates.

That's a great art piece. If the product is really good, it's worth investing in the large one of 320 colors.

I said it before but here it comes again. It's quite fascinating to me to read how you go about these artworks. It's looking really good What will the client do with the finished artwork? Is it go on a wall? You might have said in an earlier post but I've forgotten.

Hey, sorry I didn't see this before! I'm not sure, but I imagine she will probably hang it up. It's not a very large piece (it's 11x14 inches), but large enough for hanging, especially after a mat and frame adds a few inches all around.
