Second time is the charm.

Well, around four this afternoon, George tried to sit outside in the sun and watch the school busses. However, about ten minutes in, the flood gates opened up and we were chased inside. Around eight, George decided to try again, this time with more success. We still had lingering rain, but it wasn't blowing in and soaking everything. George also got to watch a lot of sheet lightning. We were out for about an hour. I gave George his third tube feed when we came inside. I then caught up here before posting.

Sounds lovely and relaxing. Will George always need the tube-feeding? Don't answer if you don't care to share that.

@paigea It's a choice. We still don't know the full extent of the brain damage. In addation you have to consider he was barely taking enough in by day before the stroke. It's unrealistic to expect him to magically start eating three squares a day. I've also ought tooth and nail to have another swollow study done. I want to make sure everything that he's actually eating (when he does) is getting into his stomach and he's not having silent asperations which could contribute to the days where he's refusing any oral intake.

I don't know the answer to that right now. It's in his hands. As of right now, he has his good days where he wants food, and his days where he doesn't. In order to no longer need the feeds, he needs to take in enough by mouth to sistain himself. The doctor also wants him to gain antother six pounds so that he's at a lower risk of another stroke. Basically, he has to decide if he needs the tube feed by chosing food. He asked the doctor if he could drive with the peg, so I'm going to assume, he's just not ready.

@kaylachan That makes sense that it's up to him. And I guess there's only so much he can do to feel like eating.

I'm just glad he wants to. Instead of turning on the t.v. and watching all day.
