Ever since the summer of 2022 when hubby had osteomyelitis and an abscessed muscle, he has been very cautious of any pain in that general area. After our trip in July he said it was "acting up".
We went to walk in at the urology department at Bob Dole VA to make sure it was nothing to do with his bladder, which is usually what gives him problems. They said it was not a urological problem, but they did discover he had a UTI, so he was given some pretty strong antibiotics. Of course he finished them.
He said he was still having that same pain, so he went to the walk-in clinic locally. Our regular doctor is off Tuesdays, but he knew that when he went last Tuesday. He actually was able to see the doctor who diagnosed his problem over two years ago.
Dr. W. after examining him, says he thinks it is residual pain from that previous massive infection. He also gave him some strong, but short term pain pills to get past it. That made sense and Bob is taking the pain pills. He used to refuse them for fear of addiction. They are helping him feel better.
So that is where we are on Bob's health. He still feels pretty good.

Residual pain... yeah, I get that... our body's little reminder that we didn't treat it properly.

I guess as long as he is feeling good that is half the battle.

I can understand the aversion to pain pills. When I had my gallbladder removed they gave me OxyContin. This was at the point where that word was synonymous with “addiction.” The pain eventually got so bad that I had to take one. I was on my knees before I took it, begging God to please not let me get addicted. From taking one.
I told the surgeon that at the follow-up. He appreciated my fear of the medication, and told me that people who take it as prescribed don’t have a problem. It’s the people who mess with the prescription (he told me how it’s abused) that have the problem. Bob is probably like I was: he isn’t interested in a “high,” he just wants the pain to subside!

I'm glad Bob is doing okay at the moment. Some health problems are very debilitating.

He needed those pain pills..perhaps they will break the pain cycle for Bob.
I am sorry he is in pain in the first place.
