Tomatoes

Surprisingly I see tomatoes are selling quite cheap this year as compared to last year. It was Rs. 110 per kilo last year and now I got them for just Rs. 30 a kilo.
Besides making a sauce - I prefer buying ketch up than making it - I have no idea what to make of buying them in bulk. I did make a nice tomato curry but one cannot eat curry every day,.
Any ideas?

I have been using ketch up for years. Home made stuff is always better though.

@allknowing - I never buy ketchup, I prepared a tomato sauce also for lunch today. I had several tomatoes from the garden.

Yes, even here in Kenya, tomatoes are alot cheaper this year. A kilo is going for as little as Ksh.50 from last year's Ksh. 180 per kilo! I love using tomatoes in my vegetable salads. Tomato soup is also wonderful especially if taken in the morning!

But one cannot store tomatoes for a long time even in the fridige unless one has a way to preserve them.

We love tomatoes in salads , on sandwiches , spaghetti or lasagna sauce or as a soup.

I do that too but when one buys in bulk what can be done with them is what I wanted to know.

We cannot buy decent tomatoes in the supermarkets, Since I have not way to get to a farmers market and I love tomatoes I always use canned.

Wow, that’s a huge drop in price! With tomatoes so cheap, you could definitely experiment with different recipes. Besides sauces and curries, you might try making a fresh tomato salsa, roasted tomato soup, or even a tomato-based pasta dish. You could also freeze some for later use or make sun-dried tomatoes
