Free Fried Chicken Courtesy of Amazon

I may be weird, and you can chastise me if you want. But my rich uncle Archie long ago taught me, "If you want things, use other people's money." Those were words that just stuck with me. "Keep your money and invest it in businesses that will pay you for a piece of their business, " he said to me. I pay for our camping trips and summer vacations this way. It has funded my retirement. I earned as much as I could, saved what I could, invested what I could, and now people send me checks. Not physically. But you get the point. I am craving fried chicken. I like Popeye's. I actually own stock in the company that owns it. But I don't want to pay for it. My Amazon stock is up 39.11%. All I have to do is take some profits and sell a single share, and my fried chicken is paid for, and I still have money left over. Amazon closed today at $184.52. I only need about $40 o $50 to get my chicken. The remainder will be put into BXMX which pays a 7% dividend. What I sell will earn me another $9.42. The point I am making here is that once you have money, if you have done the right things to save it and invest it, begins to make money for you that you do not have to go out and earn, and before you know it...like Uncle Archie said... You are living on other people's money.

Check out Benjamin Graham's The Intelligent Investor. No matter which stock market you are participating in, the fundamentals of business are the same, and value investing is a good idea. It's a great way to begin to understand the power of investing and where to invest and what things to look for before you invest.

@rakski Starting big is not the important part. Just starting at all is. Onward and upward.

What on earth are you ordering at Popeye's that will cost that much?

@porwest Have you seen the apps and the coupons you can get? And that's outrageous. There's no way or need for you to spend that much at Popeye's. lol. I'd expect you to know that with your penny pinching.

@thislittlepennyearns Even with coupons a bucket of chicken alone will cost around $30. And then of course, there are the sides. Of COURSE I'd go for the cheapest route in any event. The $50 is just a guesstimate. lol

I´m glad it has worked for you. I once got a lot of money that way. But I was young and full of energy. Now I just want to rest and have some peaceful fun.

Well, that's the joy of building a fortune. Eventually you CAN spend and enjoy it. The fun part is that what you are spending is mostly someone else's money. lol

Our KFC restaurants have recently all been shuttered, even the two newish ones. They honestly had the worst chicken and the worst service of any place around, so it's not a loss. Popeye's recently closed, the health department shut them down over and over and finally, that was it. We do have places that have good chicken to eat in or to go, if a person wants it. Ol' Colonel Sanders would be so sad. I worked at a KFC in high school and we served good, clean food. Always busy. That one was where I used to live, but it was shut down several years ago, too.

One thing I learned, and I learned this while doing a stint in pest control, is that if you ever want to enjoy fried chicken, NEVER, and I mean NEVER go in the back where it's made. Did I say, never? I am serious. Don't ever go back there.

@porwest I spent several years as a restaurant inspector. Yes, I know. Chinese restaurants/buffets were huge offenders as well. So, so many bugs, and once you saw the kitchens, you were just done.

@MarieCoyle You are right about that. In fact, MOST foreigner run businesses I found were the absolute worst. I'd rather not know, but once you do, you can't unknow. lol There was an upscale Indian restaurant in downtown Milwaukee that I did services for. Very upscale restaurant, but between rats and roaches, they outnumbered grains of rice in the place. Not a joke. In fact, MANY 5-star restaurants I serviced were also awful. But at least the dining rooms were clean. lol

That coating looks so good that I want some... just the coating, not the chicken, which is probably full of hormones and grease.
