I went to the kitchen and came back to see a baby orangutan clinging to life.

There was this tiny orangutan from Borneo and caring human beings act as foster parents to orphans whose mothers have been killed. This baby I´m watching has just been found. He is famished and weighs less that half of what she should for her age. Topan, our baby, cannot be helped although she has a fractured hand. She will have to wait until she weighs more. But fortunatly, she has no contagious ailments. Topan can´t live in the nature until she "learns" to be an orangutan. Normally the mothers teach their babies. Human substitute mothers are not perfect. Orangutans live 90% of the time in the top of trees. And human mothers can´t teach them that easily. They even sleep in nests they make in the top of the trees. I didn´t know that until today. I would not have guessed that such big apes had their beds in the top of trees, no matter how sturdy. These documentaries are for me a lot more interesting than those reality programs that are is just about every channel now. I´ll say good night now. I have to learn how coconuts are opened.

No. The biggest beast I have around is Luna and even Luna won´t get inside my bedroom. Whan I open the glass door in the morning she peeks at my bed and if I´m awake she yelps for attention. But she won´t come in.

@thislittlepennyearns It depends on many thigs. Luna is too big, my house is too little and the climate is mild.

Well, hights are your best friend. Land predators struggle to climb trees, so it'd make sense for those who can to nest in tall trees.

I know. Even leopards rest on top of trees to escape from bigger predrators.

I hate those other reality shows. Give me nature ones. I didn't know they slept in the trees

She was SO cute! But not everything is fine. Her mother had been killed in a forest fire. Now fires are bigger than before.

Enjoy your evening of rest this evening. I am in agreement with you that documentaries that feature animals are really good and educational television.

If they did not grow up and it wasn´t bad for them, I´d love to have a lion cub or a tiger cub as a pet. They are beautiful. But it is not good for them.

@marguicha I know what you mean about having a pet like a lion cub or a tiger cub for a pet if they did not grow up that large and can harm anyone.

I hope Topan survives and can be released to the wild. Have a good day.

There is an orangutan school with several levels. Only after a long time they are completly released to the wild but they also have another place where they live alone almost wild.

Me too. Animals are good. They kill to eat, not like us. Even the biggest animal predrators are better that human beings.

I never watch reality shows. They are much too 'unreal' for me. I'd rather be watching baby oranguatans too.
