Claire knows her name

It always amazes me how pets just learn their names. Say something often enough and they pick up on it I guess. Charlie came to me at almost a year old so he already knew his name. Adso came here at 8 weeks old and he picked up his name after hearing me say it so many times. Note I said that he knows it--not that he comes running when I call him. He is such a cat. Baby Claire is just 3 months old--13 weeks. I've had her for about a month. I say her name when I pet her and when she is snuggled up with me. At first I thought she was just responding to the sound of my voice when I would call her. Now though it is clear that she knows her name and responds to it. She is such a cute little floofy fluffy baby girl. I'm glad that I brought her into the Cat Crew.

You’ve seen that cartoon, haven’t you? “What you say to a cat vs. what they hear”? (What they hear: “blah blah blah blah Fluffy blah blah Fluffy blah blah blah blah Fluffy.”) She’s so cute.

@NJChicaa Luna not only knows her name, but she knows perfectly well when I want to pet her or when she has done something wrong. Of course, she is grown up now.

Cats are tons more intelligent than humans give them credit for. I expect my cats to know their names and within reason to come to me when they are called. I encourage each cat to interact with me- I used to play track ball with Sonny James. He would roll the ball toward me and I would roll it back. Cats do look a human in the eye. They do pat a person and they do communicate. The human just needs to expect to communicate and not ignore.

That's a lovely little kitten. Cats are pretty intelligent considering how small their brains are. It's not just that they can recognise their names. The cat that often sleeps overnight in my house wakes me up when she wants to go out in the morning - but she always seems to know when it's the weekend, because she lets me sleep in for an extra hour or two before she wakes me!
