Starbucks and Amazon

Many of you probably use one or both of these companies several times during a given year. They have their reasons to snag folks. But, did you know that Starbucks uses a chemical on their cups to keep the beverage hot longer? And, because of this they can't be recycled? That's not all. They used to use children under 12 on their plantations. Working around dangerous machinery. Amazon have treated their employees bad in the past. They have also run out of business or bought out small businesses that got in their way. Okay, so many of these things have been taken care of and, are no longer practiced. But, my argument and reason for not using either of these companies is this: whether these things have been stopped or not, why would a person with so many other choices use one of these businesses when their ethics is obviously an issue? If they did such things in the past how do you know what they are doing behind the scenes now?

People still use Temu, and Temu is even worse.

I used Temu once. I did get what I wanted, and the items were fine. But now I'm constantly getting spam from them. I also found it really hard to find what I was looking for on there, and some of the pricing makes no sense!

@pumpkinjam I bought from them a couple times until I found out about the sweatshops, the stealing of people’s designs, and so on… I had no idea until @MarieCoyle told me.

Maybe because you have limited options avaible to you. Not everyone has a lot of options avaible to them. I use Amazon for a few items, because I can get them at decent prices. And, for a while, mazon was the only place where I could get my cat's medication. For some reason, I could no longer get it locally. Until George had his stroke, I would do as much in-person shopping whenever possible. I actually perfer it over online shopping. But, since George has had his stroke, I rely on the likes of Walmart and Amazon to get what I need. I know places like Temu and Wish exist, but I don't want to have to question the quality of my products and they don't do things like refills on test strips for my blood sugar machine. And, if they did, I'd be concerned it'd actually work because there's a lot of coppy cats out there. I actually pay less for my test strips off of Amazon, then I do in-person at a pharmacy.

We do use Amazon occasionally just not all of the time. I use Walmart as much as possible. I don't use Temu or Wish at all. It is nice you are able to save on your test strips.

@celticeagle If I wasn't getting savings on the products I need, I wouldn't be using it. I've had my issues with it. George's undwer has been delayed, so I tried to get it delivered tomorrow. But, I feel like I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. That's one thing I don't think George would want to buy in-person in a store.

I don't use Starbucks because it's overpriced and horrible. There are lots of better options available than spending an hour's wage on stale coffee. As for Amazon, I do use that. I'll try to use other sellers if the options are available and reasonably priced. Sometimes, though, the things we need are not available elsewhere or at a reasonable price. There's also the delivery. While there are other online retailers that will deliver, again, Amazon is often still the best value and is particularly useful for those who need items quickly.

@celticeagle we used to have a lovely little independent coffee shop in town. Sadly, it closed rather suddenly and unexpectedly. We have a Costa, which is better than Starbucks but that's not saying much I'll sometimes pay a little more to avoid Amazon but, for example, we get flea tablets for the cats. We always get them from Amazon because the next best option is double the price plus the train fare to get to the store!

@pumpkinjam .......I also use Amazon a few times in situations like yours. It's just not something I use all the time.

I don't like the price or taste either. I like to use the small businesses locally if I can. We have ours delivered. We have no transportation and the one we like it clear across town. Yes, Amazon is the best value at times. Sometimes I pay a little more to avoid them too.

I doon't use Starbucks, because I don't drink coffee and even if I did, I hate overpaying for it.

I never to go Starbucks and avoid Amazon as much as possible (sometimes it's the only place to find what you need, but 99% of the time everything can be found somewhere else. But obviously plenty of people do use them, their vans are around here daily.

And they have it so that Amazon comes up first on most searches and if a person is in a hurry they go with it.

Did you know that even just cutting these two companies out, it won't matter. Literally everything has chemicals. Unless you are growing all your own stuff, making sure all your stuff is all natural.
