Going Into Fall

It's the first day of Fall. This means cooler weather, warmer clothing, and heavier food choices. As has been the common gripe in the media is HIGH FOOD PRICES. So when have any of us not seen that? The president is always blamed whether Republican or Democrat. In my opinion, the pandemic is high on the list of why there are the high prices. Supply chain disruptions began at this time and continue in some areas. Not only are prices up but availability is low. I is becoming harder to find those things I used to buy all the time.
Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, commodity prices have gone up. That has continued for a couple of years now. And, weather enters into it too. Droughts and extreme heat have caused reduced fruit and vegetable production. That means higher prices on what is available. Something I have noticed too is the shrinking size of certain products and charging more for them.
It's really old hat to just blame the president but seriously folks.
I am looking forward to pinto beans with a tasty ham hock and cornbread. I have eaten very few meats in the spring and summer months but will be making up for that soon. I will put some hamburger in the navy white beans we will be fixing. Taco Tuesdays. Corned beef and cabbage, some pork loin, and turkey around the holidays will be good too. I taught my daughter how to make potato soup(so easy) and she does a great job. I being the Idaho tator tot that I am have to have a lot of potatoes in the winter months.
How about you? What dishes will you be fixing in the fall and winter months?

My blood test- go me- first one I have done in thirty years- no joke. Anyway, it said that my cholesterol was up. Provider said to eat more fruits and vegies. I am mostly a vegetarian so duh. BUT I also go for the easy out so I am consuming more cheese than maybe I should and eating the processed vegie patties. Time to start back to making my own patties and goodies like lentil soup. I made some tasty mushroom-walnut burgers last week.

They always say to eat more fruit and vegs. It's nice that you are able to be a vegetarian. I eat a lot less meat. One way to have good soups and casseroles on hand is to make a double recipe and put one in the freezer. Eezy peezy. Mushroom in anything is good. My grandson loves his cream of mushroom soup. I'm a mushroom person too. It's like a meat I think.

@celticeagle Oh Lordy my addictions. We were supposed to have company on Thursday so I went to a local place and bought some sausage that they make for supper. I also bought some out of this world corned beef that they make. I mostly am a vegetarian then......boom. Locally made and made right meat stuff. Company got sick so she isn't coming after all. Meantime I'm having scrumptious lunch sandwiches.

@sallypup ......Those sound wonderful. We will be having corned beef and cabbage next month. It is yummy and cheap to make. We don't use corned beef brisket that is so expensive.

I'll probably be making more soups. I hate turning on the big (30") electric oven for one little dish.
And it's not your president's fault prices have skyrocketed: it's the greedy corporations and lack of competition.

It's too bad you don't live close. We could bring you a dinner of beans and cornbread occasionally. Have a good week.

I hope everything will be fine in the coming days even though how it is impossible to the current events that is happening around the world, our economy is slowly booming, but still the inflation rate is still high. But I know soon everything will be fine. God bless.

I think inflation is going to remain as are the world situations. War, supply lines, products due to drought, and extreme weather are causing this inflation.

I do too. Heavier foods in the cold weather helps to keep us warm.

Nothing special for myself but lately I have been remembering a sauerkraut soup with smoked ham hocks and potatoes my mom used to make that I loved in the cooler weather,
