Tiptoeing through the tulips

I’ve been rabbiting on about the beautifully sunny and warm weather we’re having. It’s just been a lovely spring so today we decided to visit Araluen Botanical Park and take in the annual Tulip Festival. The Park started life as a holiday camp for the Young Australia League. In 1990, public outcry forced the state government to save the land from redevelopment and it became a botanical park. It’s 150 acres (59 hectares) lie in a sheltered valley just south of Perth. The gardens there are magnificent but there are also many areas of untouched native vegetation. Volunteers spend hours planting tulip bulbs which make a great show as you can see from the photo. I know it doesn’t compare to the Netherlands’ tulip fields but it’s still pretty impressive.

They do look lovely en masse. I particularly liked the yellow ones.

@JudyEv this morning on tv they were showing a sunflower farm and the acres and acres of sunflowers were absolutely amazing. You could actually go and pick a sunflower for a nominal price

@Marilynda1225 When we were in France, it was the first time I'd ever seen acres of sunflowers.

@JudyEv - I remember how beautiful those fields are from the plane when we flew from the Amsterdam airport. There were many cute rabbits running, I remember those too.

I've only seen photos of the Netherland fields. They would be very special to see in person.

Very pretty indeed! Friend and I went to the botanical gardens in June. It was a free day, and fun to walk around.

@JudyEv The botannical garden here has a handful of free days throughout the year. It was a little on the warm, humid side on the day we went, as it was nearly July, but they had plenty of shade and water stations set up so it was fine.

I doubt this place ever has free days but we did get a concession place because of our age. lol

From the photo, the tulips look so beautiful. We have a community of Mennonites not far from us who have large gorgeous tulip fields, but on a smaller scale.

@JudyEv They do sell them, along with other flowers and farm supplies. They have their own school, also.

How nice would that be? Do they sell them? They look lovely en masse but the individual flowers aren't as 'well-formed' as some.

That's a beautiful tulip patch. I love tulips. I have been to Netherlands but it was not the season for Tulips. I would like to visit tulip park sometimes.

Wow it's very beautiful, the flowers are blooming and colorful, it's almost hard to find a view like that where I might be, but most of the flowers like that are in cold places like the mountains, unfortunately my house is in a low place which has lots of views of the vast agricultural land here .

Tulips, bluebells and hyacinths are cold weather plants and this valley would be a bit cooler than some of the nearby areas.

@JudyEv Yeah, just like there, in Indonesia we can only find tulips in cool areas or highlands

I had to scroll back up to the photo to see if I'd captured any orange tulips. They look better massed than as individual flowers.

Really impressive!! We do also have some such gardens but they are underdeveloped as far as tourism is concerned. How far is this place from your home?

It was about a 30 minute drive from home and quite accessible to a great many people from the city.

I missed the tulip season in Amsterdam just by a few days. Tulips do not grow in India but they have managed to in Srinagar, Kashmir. Remember the song Tulips in Amsterdam?

Yes, I do remember that song. It's an old one. Just checked and it was written in 1953.

I like yours better because they border a forest type area, in the Netherlands all you see are tulips no forest or whatnot.

I love a large area of tulips like the one you shared a photo of. The various colours are beautiful and it is such a sure sign of spring.
