It's a bad storm to be in

I've been listening to the news on the storm & been reading a lot of your post on your thoughts on what your going to do when it hits & all the mishaps of it. I heard some will stay, some said they'd go if they need to, some said they'll wait & see what it does I've been in some of the worst storms in my life. I'd like to put a little of my thoughts on the subject to what I would do in a case of this size of storm I would keep my eye on the storm that's brewing. I would listen to the news they talking about what it's doing & where it's heading & put my plan in place once I see it's coming my way I'd have my plain in place & bags packed & animals with enough food & water & that they will be safe if I have to leave. I would make sure my gas tank was FULL & a few extra gals to have on hand so I don't run out to get where I was going, I would leave WAY B-4 every 1 else so I wouldn't get caught in traffic & get to where I was going safe & sound & hunker down & stay put. I would go to a truck stop or a rest area with a ice chest of food & plenty of drinks & a few blankets & keep my radio on to keep track of what the storm is doing & going. Once I knew it has passed my home area & long gone I would head back home & the 1st thing I would do is check on all the animals & see how they were doing. Then check on the house & see if there's anything I need to be worried about, I wasn't worried about any flooding cause we lived on a sloped land where we didn't have any flooding & it was sloped away from the house, it' was the wind & trees I worried about. When we had trees that were uprooted I'd get them delimbed where husband could come in & get them cut down, or cut down what I could with a hand saw. If we lost power I would make sure I had plenty of ice on hand ( frozen bottled water) & put them in a ice chest that was big enough to keep things in the fridge cold. I'm talking 2 liter bottles, gal milk jugs of frozen water I had like 6 bottles on hand at all times just for this reason, cause when your in a area that's known for hurricanes you learn a lot on how to stay safe & a head of the game B-4 it hits your area to help others. So when it comes to hurricanes & bad storms think smart & get out ahead of every 1 else B-4 it hits & if you have small animals take them with you & just make sure what pets you have in outside pens make sure they will be safe & plenty of food & water for them. Take at lest 2 gals of gas & a ice chest of cold foods like lunch meat & drinks along with some blankets & what meds & paper work you'll need for ins reports. Get out a HEAD of every 1 else so you don't get caught in traffic trying to get out drive safe & in the daylight & take roads that's not heavy in a lot of traffic, just by doing this makes you smarter & keeps you safer than those that wait till the last min.

One thing about Floridians, I am pretty sure they stay more prepared for storms than anyone since they know they're coming eventually, and have survived enough of them to know what they need when one hits.

I doubt that as you WOULD think they would, but I've seen & heard some people do & say some things that just makes me think what are they thinking???

Some great suggestions on how to properly prepare for hurricanes. Some try to ride it out with disastrous results.

@dgobucks226 I can't say it enough, NEVER think a hurricane will be a easy 1 to live through, ALWAYS take them serious, they change on a dime.

yeah some think it's not going to be that bad & then when it hits they find out they were wrong & can't get out.

thank you, I'm no dummy when it comes to storms & hurricanes that's why I don't live any where close to the south cause I've been in enough of them to know what to do to stay safe.

If a storm like that was heading in my direction I think I would leave. I wouldn't wait until it hit to decide I shouldn't have stayed.

That's what I'm saying, you know it's a bad storm & heading your way why stay & take a chance of getting caught in it & putting your self at risk, that makes no sense to me at all.

Looks like a well-thought strategic evacuation and emergency plan of action. It surely works!

When it comes to survival I always have a plan in place with stuff like that I don't mess around when it comes to storms & how things can kill me I get on my husband when he thinks he wants to scare me with driving I don't play them kind of games when it comes to MY LIFE ! ! !
