Thanks to the efforts of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) officers stationed in Clearwater Florida on Thursday who answered an emergency call from a sailor and his dog that were aboard a 36 foot vessel that was taking on water and stranded in the Gulf Of Mexico on Thursday. The location of the incident took place 25 miles away from Sanibel Island near Fort Myers The man and his dog jumped off of the 36 foot sailboat into the water when a USCG diver rescued both the man and his dog and took them to the USCG helicopter and into safety. I do not mean to be a second guesser but I am wondering if the sailor knew about a small craft advisory in the area since Hurricane Helene was headed toward Florida the same day. I mean if the weather conditions are dangerous, why would anyone want to be in a danger zone in the first place? Link is msn.com/en-us/weather/...

I am one with you in your question. I mean people who will use boats and such should check first the weather, no?

That is true since the authorities stress safety first when dealing with travel on the seas.

I am in agreement with you since hurricanes are not storms to be around.

Some people think warnings don't apply to them. Commonsense should have told him not to go out on the water if a hurricane was in the area.

At least, it looks like that both him, and his dog, have life jackets on, so that was thoughtful of him, but to venture into potentially rough seas, he certainly took a big risk.

That is true since taking a sailboat into rough seas is looking for trouble.
