Work Placement, Yey!

October 1, 2024 12:38pm CST
I'll be finishing up my School-based Teacher Aide course this month: Completing Cert III and Cert Iv to a High Standard Qualification. And currently doing 100 hours or 16 days volunteer work placement. I'm still humbly amazed at how things are going smoothly in my life aiming for the 'high road'-- toward the direction to back-to-school teaching. I taught at a private Primary school in 1984. Entered married life in 1986. Home-schooled all l my children since 1990 to 2023. Pretty much a regular, normal course of my life, which I've had oopsies, ups and downs, learning-from-mistakes, and victories. Up to this point, I am grateful for how this new chapter in my life is going to be remembered, written and living it fully. All my children all moved out of home, and two young adults still at home studying short diploma/certificate courses useful for future jobs they aim and love to do. I am looking forward to working as a school-based assistant to the teachers at my work placement in the very near future. (Photo web images)

Sounds like you've got a lot ahead of you, and have had a good life up to now. Great.

That sounds like a lot to ask of you. On the other hand I wonder if we would be more successful if we required more than an interview to hire. Our entire district learned this year that because our schools receive Title One funds all paraprofessionals must study and test to earn the label of Highly Qualified in order to continue to work and new hires must pass that exam. We have a new person starting this week who has worked for us before but has struggled with that test. I have enough college hours to make me already a Highly Qualified Paraprofessional, and I work in a Specialized environment. I do not know what is required of Teacher's Aides in our school as it is an entirely different postition.

Thank you for your insight. I am enrolled and have been training (22 months) at an institute of teacher aide courses for Cert 3 and Cert 4. I have passed the first four theory Assessments. And now extensively completing the next set of 4 Assessments in which Placement (5) and Demonsration (6) are included. Teacher Aides are professionally vetted, tested to be able to Highly Qualify as Teacher Aide, Integration Officer, School-based Education Support.
