Before the burglary that shattered her confidence, Phoenix Rose had a fiance, a succcessful store and a busy, happy existence. After months spent adrift, she takes a job at the lakeside resort of Cooper's Charm. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, friendly colleagues and a charismatic, widowed boss, Phoenix is slowly inching her way back into the world. Visiting Cooper's Charm to check up on her little sister, Ridley Rose impulsively agrees to fill in as housekeeper. Still reeling from an ego-bruising divorce, she finds satisfaction in a job well done - and in the attention of the resort's handsome scuba instructor. For Phoenix and Ridley, Cooper's Charm is supposed to be merely temporary. But this detour may lead to the place they most need to be, where the future is as satisfying as it is surprising... ~~~~ I began reading the book that follows this book (only 2 in the series) and put it down to read this book first. I didn't want spoilers. Though the books are considered standalones, if you're going to read both they are better read in order. Reluctantly, Pheonix is attracted to her boss, Cooper. He is equally attracted to her, and also overcoming his own loss. But chemistry is chemistry. Can't really be resisted, right? I was skeptical when Pheonix's sister Ridley came upon the scene. I became worried that she would move in on Pheonix's love interest/boss. But she found her own attraction. Her "brief" visit turned into something more. And she was escaping the demons of a bad marriage and was only looking for a good time. A rolls in the sheets with Baxter was something she wanted, and he did too. And they both agreed that was all they wanted... until it wasn't. Dual romance stories along with some mystery and finding life and love again. What a great read.

I keep forgetting to mention that Lori writes longer chapters (10, 20, even 30 pages). It takes me longer to read her books because of this. I am reading the 2nd in the series and I can only manage one, maybe two chapters a night.

@patgalca Do you use a book mark? I don't usually bother but Vince always uses one. I try to remember the page number; otherwise I read a bit here and there until I catch up.

@JudyEv Yes, I have tons of bookmarks. Some are personalized, some are from authors promoting their books (lots of them actually), and some have been gifted to me. There are many bookmark maker/sellers on Etsy. I don't get the need for people to have a ton of different bookmarks. I only read one book at a time (though I also have am reading a Chicken Soup for the Soul book (non-fiction) and a tiny poetry book. So technically I'm using 3 at a time right now. But all 100+ I have? There's no way I would remember a page number. I've been known to fall asleep reading and drop the book losing the page, but I am quickly able to find it again.
