Not a good start to the day, can I get a do-over?

One of my very good friends called, they took her husband to the hospital as his son found him very ill on the floor when he stopped to visit. She was with her daughter, who was having a baby, in Arkansas (we are in Illinois). She grabbed the next flight and called me, and asked me to go to the airport to get her--but I was in another city, taking my son to a specialist appointment we had waited on for quite some time, so I was 3 hours away! I felt so bad. She has done so much to help me out with my son, and she asked one favor and I couldn't get to her to help her. Her husband is OK. She is with him now, we found her a ride.
That was enough excitement for one day...but no. Finally made it back to my own city, and my best friend called (she lives 120 miles away). Her brother died this morning. She was completely inconsolable, of course...she was very close to her brother. He had fought prostate cancer twice, and had just been pronounced as in remission not a week ago. He just stood up and hit the floor...and then it was over. Mark was honestly one of the nicest men I ever met. Truly a good and kind man.
Lastly, we were at the treatment center when all of this went down, for son's transfusion and infusion. They always check his counts beforehand, which they did and his blood was a lot lower than usual, so we had to sit through him getting 2 units of blood, plus an iron infusion. He was wiped out, so tired.
Anyway, enough hard stuff for one day! Hopefully, the rest of the day will be calm.

Mark was so, so excited to be in remission! He had all sorts of things planned for himself. Even bought a new fishing pole. Thank you so much.

That is too much for one day. You must not feel guilty because you couldn't get to her to help your friend, you were helping your son and miles away from the airport.
Sorry for your other friend who lost her brother. Your poor son must be so exhausted, you both need to rest now.

We did both manage a little nap, but not nearly enough. Some days are just stressful for us all...and all we can do is our best. Thank you, Anna.

I hope so, too. I find it hard sometimes to think of ''next time'' after all of the surgeries he has had. I've dreaded each one. Thank you.

I did. It’s hard when people you care about are hurting.

You deserve a do-over. So do your friends.
That sounds like my uncle: he went to the doctor on a Friday for his five-years colon cancer checkup and was declared cured. Next Friday we buried him (heart attack). My prayers with you, dear, you’ve had a terrible month today.

Very upsetting...and very unexpected for her. Now she has lost both of her little brothers, and her husband as well. It's hard for her.
I am sure that was a total shock about your uncle, too. We never know what the day will bring, so we need to make the most of them! Thank you.

Today was a bit better. He was able to rest for several hours without waking up, which is wonderful.

This would have been a day to sleep late, but no choice. Others had it far worse. Thank you.
