Hey, I heard from LouAvul! She’s over the covid and overseas now, enjoying her vacation! The only good news I have for you today, because you’re not going to know either of these songs today. Oh, well, I’ll go ahead and tell everyone “we’ll try again tomorrow” (and one of the best songs on the list is up tomorrow, so…). Here’s today’s song from my country favorites list.
Good Time Charlie’s - Del Reeves
Two things to clear up quickly: no relation to Jim; and, he’s not on the list because of his last name. Del (Franklin Delano) Reeves was nowhere near the most popular person named Reeves in country music. He did take advantage of the name, though, doing a tribute album (Del Reeves Sings Jim Reeves) in the mid-60s.
Oh, a third thing: this is NOT “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues.”
No, Del Reeves was best known for “The Girl on the Billboard,” the mouthful song about a trucker in love with an ad model. He did do other subjects, and this is a short (clocking in at just under two minutes), fun song about the neighborhood bar, complete with directions (“two miles from town, cross the railroad tracks, turn right at the light, and park in the back”).
Just another great song from country music about country music.

Peak chart position: #3
Today’s rock song: “I’m Scared”

I’m glad she got to go, too.
That evil eye woman at the auction played this to spite you, didn’t she?

Don’t you have a dog to watch? (what do Claire and Whiskey think of each other?)

As far as I know. I’ll text her next week after she gets back from her trip.

Yeah, ok, but I prefer Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues.
I'm assuming that guy on the album cover is Del... looks a little sleezy there, don't ya think?

Hey, what do you expect from a guy who touts one of the best things about a place as “wall to wall women”?

He’s one of many hundreds of forgotten singers from my childhood….along with nearly everyone else on the lists.

Oh, I have the blues, too, because this isn’t the Danny O’Keefe song.
