These are the last tomatoes in the garden. We have to harvest them prematurely now as the cold autumn air is starting to kill them. Hopefully we can ripen it indoors off the vine. Now searching online tips on how. It was fun cultivating them and it kept me sane when I was off sick for 6 weeks. I can't wait to do it again next year.

You have beautiful tomatoes. I also harvested prematurely, they are in a basket in the kitchen and turning red little by little.

Thank you Anna they are the last ones after 2 previous harvests so they are lesser pretty. I discovered today there is also an Italian recipe for green tomatoes. Andrea’s friend say you can fry them with flour.

@LadyDuck We use to eat it as salads in the Philippines. But I will heed your warning.

@flapiz Fried green tomatoes is an American recipe, made from green tomatoes coated with cornmeal and fried. I like, but do not eat too many, green tomatoes are toxic. It is not wise to eat green tomatoes in large quantities.

It's so satisfying to grow your own produce. Perhaps you could buy one of those little plastic houses to keep plants safe when it gets cold.

I have tried those little tents. But because we have not trimmed our tomatoes it is too high for the tent. We will plant again when it is warmer. The winter here is quite harsh compared to the Perth winter. I miss the mild winters of Perth

@JudyEv Yep not only the cold but also the wind. Quite a harsh climate.

@flapiz Our son in Ireland has much harsher winters too. They tried a small glass house affair but it didn't last too long. The winds played havoc with it.

They are lovely tomatoes. I remember our last harvests in Latvia, Always had something still to use, We ripened out last tomatoes by wrapping them up in newspaper pages and storing them at room temperature, I found this on the net To ripen green tomatoes, you can wrap them individually in newspaper and store them at room temperature Alternatively, you can put the unripe tomatoes in a paper bag, close it up, and store it in a warm location. The idea is to trap ethylene gas to speed up ripening. Make sure to check your tomatoes often.

I have them wrapped with news paper. I will buy some bananas to provide more ethylene gas for them. It is quite a science experiment too. Thank you for the advice. I can see you are a seasoned gardener.

I have the same issue, the summer didn't really warm up enough until the end and now we had frost last night!

It is sadly back to being like a fridge now. I did not even enjoy the summer much to be honest. I need more sun.

@Fleura With the global warming we really cannot predict what we will get weatherwise.

@flapiz We didn't really get a proper summer this year. So different to 2022 when we had 40 degrees some days! That was too much, we need something pleasantly in between!

Some of them managed to ripen and some just got moldy. They tasted bitter though so I guess the frost had changed it chemically.
