I had a hard time paying attention in high school because it never appealed to my interest, but once in college I was able to get better with it because it was something I wanted to do, and paying for it made me want to get great grades to make the best of it.
Don't worry to much, just support him with anything. Let him know you're there to help.

Some kids are lazy, and some have learning problems. If he's just lazy, give him a choice. Get your butt going with the books, or I will take you down to a recruiting office and sign you over to them. Hopefully, just those words will scare him.
But if he has a learning problem, work with him on this matter. But from what I read doesn't seem to be this case, if he's starting college soon.
Just have to light a fire under his butt.
Good Luck

I'm the mother of 3, all went to college and graduated. My advise to you is to let him be a man, he is 18 right? If he made it through high school, and his college entrance exams went ok, then what are you stressing about. He'll be just fine, I hope your not sharing these concerns with him? He needs to see that you have confidence in his ability. His concentration level may not be the norm for you, but it may be just fine for him. The college will let him know if he's having problems, and would never give him courses he's not ready for. Have alittle faith, he just may surprise you. I wish him and you the best of luck.

Have you ever had him tested for attention deficit disorder (ADD)? If he is really having problems, then maybe he is really having a medical condition like this one or some other. Otherwise, it could be an age thing where he is interested in things other than schoolwork that you want him to study.
