Remember when I was talking a couple of weeks ago about attending a meeting here? It was about the plans to work on the piers. Anyway, I joined a sub committee on this and the woman who is running this is really gung ho. It is like she has nothing else to do .and is constantly throwing out facts and figures and asking for feedback. Honestly, I just wanted all this put on the back burner until a way to pay for the construction was found. Her latest thing, and I don't see how this even relates is wanting to institute workmen's comp for board members?? What does that even have to do with anything? They aren't the ones doing the construction.

I feel for you. She probably can't understand others' lack of enthusiasm for all her ideas. And I agree that she probably doesn't have anything else to do.

It sure seems that way. Maybe she was just looking for a project to latch onto.

I can't even begin to imagine the time she is putting into this. She must be a lawyer or something..anyway, she seems to have a real bee in her bonnet. The only thing I care about really is not raising the dues.

Well, she is providing oversight which probably is going to help but honestly she seems way too involved in this.

Maybe she's worried that in her gung ho-ness she'll trip and fall at a meeting and get hurt. lol I serve on the board of directors for two non-profit organizations, and on both boards we are fully insured. I guess since we live in a sue-happy world that you have to protect yourself from everything, even when serving in a volunteer capacity.

I will say the same thing to you I said to her. We have gone 20 years without this, and no incidents, so why do we suddenly need it now? I think the odds of Anything happening are very remote.

@snowy22315 It's true that the odds of something happening are extremely minimal, but the point of insurance is to protect you from that one freak isolated incident that no one saw coming. You know, a lightning bolt striking the building out of nowhere while you're having a meeting and frying all of you to a crisp. That kind of freaky accident. I'm half joking but also half serious. It's crazy how many freak things happen out there in the world. It's always better to be prepared, but if tight funds are an issue, then you're probably right that the money could be better spent somewhere else.

Can I borrow a word from the politicians and just say "weird" Are board members paid? Are they actually doing any "work" to be "comped" for if injured?

Supposedly a couple are. I was on the board one year and nobody offered to pay me.

That sounds expensive having WC for board members. It makes me wonder if they won't be more involved at some point, that would be the only sensible reason to look for coverage for the members.

She mentioned a couple of reasons, but it didn't make sense to me.

Possibly, but I think she is more like a dog with a bone. Sometimes people just latch on to things like this I guess.

Yeah, it does sound like she thinks about this project all the time. Which is fine, except she's oversharing whatever is on her mind.
