Evacuation Plans

Our area is supposed to get a direct hit from Hurricane Milton. If this happens, my friend and I plan to evacuate north with her best friend, her dog, and our cats. If the predictions hold steady, the storm is life-threatening. 110 miles steady winds will blow out the glass doors. Heavy rain may overflow the pond. I wish everyone in this monster's path the best—prayers for safety and a house to return to. We have not had a storm of this magnitude hit this area in 104 years.

Thank you. That is the most important thing you could do. I know you get terrible storms where you live.

I wish it would get some dry air and lose strength and intensity. I do not wish for anyone else to get it. It could turn into a tropical storm.

I am worried about my Florida family as well. They don't live in a flood zone, but still, St. Pete is in the path of Milton, and still in a mess from Helene. Be safe, please!

We will try our best. I was thinking about your daughter in St. Pete. My son lives up that way too. I don't know what he will do. Prayers for your daughter and her family.

@MarieCoyle We decided to stay. The highways will be a mess and there won't be any hotels or motels with available rooms. What is your daughter going to do? I think Pinellas zones A and B are mandatory evacuation zones. We live in Zone C.

Thank you. The best thing would be for it to weaken and/or go to a less populated area. I do not wish it on anyone, I'll be praying for people wherever it goes.

Thani you. That is the best thing you can do. We decided to stay here, at least for now. If the glass doors blow out, we will stay next door. The resident there gave us permission. She is up north somewhere.

Now we decided we aren't going. There are no motels/hotels in the state. We can't leave cats shut up in their carriers for hours or days. The dog is not a problem. It is used to walking on a leash.

Plans are changed for now. We will stay here for the pets, especially the cats. Of course, it could change again if the storm does something unexpected.

If you plan to leave, do so no later than tuesday morning. By then I can guarentee you'll be facing gridlocks. Stay safe and be careful. Give yourself as much travel time as possible. I'm sure you know this already.

@akalinus So you know how fun it can be. Or, not be. I was just trying to give a friendly reminder. Because being stuck on a grid lock is not fun, either. My family evuacuated only once that I know of, and we had a lot of a animals and we did get stuck in a gridlock. Needless to say that wasn't fun. I was stuck in the back seat with a couple of our cats, one of whom pooped in his carrier.

I have evacuated before and it is never fun. Once, my son and I stayed in a school. We met Mr. Yucks there. He got someone from the National Guard to try and tell us to all go to sleep at 7 pm. That was his bedtime and he did not want to hear any noise from 20 other people in the room. We also stayed in a motel room that had not been cleaned in years. Our park had no electric and my son had to take showers to go to work.

I think God heard you. There is a a possibility that there will be an infusion of drier, cooler air, which would reduce the strength of the storm.

That is what we are hoping. There is another storm on the way. They named it Nadine. There are four more systems in the Atlantic.

The last one left us here with no problems in our area but greatly dented my nerves. This time the Lord will also be with me and if my time comes it comes, I have no way or want to get anywhere with my two cats, So best of luck to you and I hope all will be well, Where are you located?

I have heard about the storm.Your country faces so many storms every year.Nobody can deal with these natural calamities. But I'm thinking about evacuation.I can imagine the problems of those who are made to leave their houses and shift to other places. I pray for you and all those living in your area.

Prayers for you and your near and dear ones. Please evacuate safely . Hurricane and rain not a great combination and well seems there is prediction of heavy impacts. Perhaps the climate change is the reason for the increased impact as the storm of this magnitude is approaching after a century plus. It has definitely impacted the temperatures and heatwaves this year across the globe. Definitely , it looks life-threatening.Hope there would be less damage to the area and things would be fine with less or no impact. Take care of yourself and near and dear ones!
