Black Cats Are Different From Other Cats

We have a lovely black cat. His name is Finn. He has a long body as did one of his ancestors whom we had the pleasure of having until someone left some antifreeze out and it poisoned him. Finn is a bit skittish but he's my pal and comes in my room to snooze occasionally. After a recent post on here about cats I did a deep dive and found some interesting facts about black cats which I will share below. They have unique characteristics. Black cats do not belong to a certain breed although there are 22 breeds where they can appear. Some of those are Maine Coon, Persian, Scottish Fold, Sphinx, and British Short Hair. Also, in 1950 Bombay was bred in the U.S. crossing the Burmese and the American Shorthair and it is black. Black cats have a dominant gene so if a parent is black the kittens will very likely have some black ones. Melanin is responsible for the color of the fur, and eyes. Black cats can change color in certain circumstances. When exposed to the sun for long periods ultraviolet rays combine with the Melanin causing the coat to take on a brown or reddish tint. Diet can also cause the coat to fade. Black cats usually have yellow or green eyes, blue eyes are rare. The picture is from my collections of old pics.
