How often have you engaged in Community Service?

I have never been a part of community service except for teaching value based books to slum kids and donating old clothes, books, stationeries, soft toys to poor kids in our region or wherever I had worked earlier. The idea of a walk-a-thon was unknown to me, till I hit upon it on Google. There are many institutions organizing fairs, carnivals, fetes, that I have been a part of, in my school days but community service is something that I have only read. I was presently thinking of organizing an event and was browsing through the net when I hit upon walk-a-thon as a fundraising event to promote community service. Well, I am yet to assimilate ideas as to how to proceed with the programme with the budget but I am open to any kind of suggestions here.
