Oh Crap, I Think My Chest Freezer Went to Crap!

I went down tonight to grab some meat for dinner tonight and noticed everything in the chest freezer was thawing. What the hell? At first I entertained the idea that maybe we had a power out when we were on our camping trip that we returned home from on Sunday.
But when we got home none of the clocks were flashing. So, no. It can't be that.
Son of a b*tch. I bet the compressor went. Ugh. We've only had this freezer for about 5 or 6 years if my memory serves, so we definitely did not get the life out of this thing as we should have.
I am running some tests, and meantime, luckily we didn't have too much in there that I was able to transfer it to the kitchen and garage freezers. But it's still a pain in the ass.
If I have to replace it, I have to replace it. But it won't be tomorrow. I will make do for as long as I can. But if I would have had to throw food away, I'd be way more pissed, let me tell you.
***Picture has nothing to do with the post, but I am sure this gnome killed my freezer and I am letting him know I am not happy about it. lol***

I hate when that happens. Our hot water heater that. We replaced it.

@kaylachan I turned the dial up a bit to see if I can get it back to a freeze temp, but we'll see. The walls are cold, but I need to see if I can get it back to freezing. I might buy a thermometer to throw in there and see what the actual temp is and whether turning the dial up makes it colder.

@porwest If the compresssor or whatever it is is going that might not do well. Fingers crossed.

If that happened to my freezer, I´d be in a state of shock. Did you replace your freezer?

@porwest You are lucky that you have so many freezers even if those that come with the fridges don´t cool as well.

@marguicha Mine cool about the same across the board. I'd like to have another chest freezer right now. But I can wait. I want to find a really good deal before I spring for a replacement.

@MarieCoyle Those high tech gadgety refrigerators are ridiculous to me. But yeah, if it had come with the house I'd have kept it until it went kaput. We have two refrigerators. One in the kitchen and one in the garage. My hope is that the one in the garage goes first, that way we'll just take the one from the kitchen and put it in the garage and get a new one for the kitchen. But I'm not spending a fortune on it.

I can't believe how much appliances, and also appliance repair, can be. Refrigerators have gone so over the top, it's like buying a used car! Good grief.

Honestly, appliances are just not made to last like they used to. It's maddening. I hate it when appliances die. I hope you can find another that you like, that will last longer than that one did.

Our chest freezer is over 30 years old; and I often wonder when it will go. We do need a new washer. Have a good day.

@porwest It's not a lemon. The new appliances have planned obsolescence.

Sorry about your freezer, I'd say I hope replacing it won't be too expensive, but most things are stupid expensive these days.
