A rose called Origami

I’ve been a bit disappointed in my roses so I gave them a dose of fertiliser and I can hardly believe how much better they look. This is the first flower from the bush called Origami and there are many more buds to come. The other rose is also covered in buds. It’s a pink rose but has a lovely perfume so I’m looking forward to seeing it covered in flowers too. When we first moved here we bought three roses and had them in troughs. I’m sure there wasn’t enough dirt for them to thrive. I lost one and we repotted the other two into bigger tubs. Now I think they’re saying thank you.

I like variegated flowers. A bit more interesting than a straight colour.

I have found that pink roses have the best scent. Even my China Rose smells so good. That Origami rose is stunning.

Pink roses always smell the best, maybe it's due to the fact they're the OG. This Origami rose is marvelous though!

What does OG mean? Were original roses always pink?

@JudyEv OG means "original gangster", but yes, I meant they were the first species to be cultivated or to even exist. They're named after the color pink after all.

Roses need fertilizers and I am glad you got the results. Origami is normally flowers made from paper.

@allknowing In Donnybrook, we didn't have good soil and we were also battling against the roos.

Yes, that's right. This one sort of dries on the bush so looks a bit like a paper flower when it's past its prime.

@changjiangzhibin89 Our roses suffer from that too - and from aphids.

Thanks. Can you grow roses where you live? I won't buy any more as I don't really have the space.

@JudyEv - I think the bugs had my roses, as they could not find water, they attacked flowers and vegetables to get water from them.

I would have lost these if I'd left them in the troughs. They didn't have enough earth to do well.

The older varieties were very tough but some of the newer ones are a bit more delicate it seems.

That is a gorgeous picture. When my parents moved into the home my dad shares with my now stepmom, 27 years ago, they had a yellow rose bush that was just beautiful to me. I don’t know why, but it got taken out. Fortunately, now my stepmom planted a lot of things where the rose bush used to be. Honestly though, the rose bush looked better.

@JudyEv There had to be, you must be right, as my mom thought it was pretty too. My stepmom has red roses in her backyard, and they are lovely. But I’ve always liked the yellow rose because I heard it stood for friendship.

Roses can be fickle and hard to maintain. They really require a lot of love and care.

We always regarded them as very tough plants but the more modern ones can be harder to grow.

@JudyEv It's the only flower I can think of you have to cover in the winter or risk losing them in the summer.
