A 50-year celebration

On Sunday afternoon, we went to a 50-year celebration of Canning City Brass Band. Vin and I both played in this band for about a decade when we first moved to Perth. We played with the band for about a decade then moved too far away to continue. We weren’t sure we’d know too many people but we had a very enjoyable evening. Several of the conductors that we’d played under were there but everyone is of course older than when we knew them, as are we. In the photo, from the left are a husband and wife who we hadn’t seen for ages. I taught the wife piano many years ago in Esperance while she was still in primary school, and we played in the brass band with her father and another sister before she married. The young man on the right is their son who is also in their band. The young lady (other than me!) next to Vince is our niece. She is hugely active in three bands. Having now made contact with old band friends, we’ve promised to keep in touch which will be nice.

The couple are just so lovely - and their son is too. We call the niece our favourite niece but we also call her sister that too. It's a standing joke now.

Wow what a wonderful time that would be seeing them all again after so long. Especially seeing the woman having a family of her own now. You got lucky in that your shirt matches the flooring so well. Looks nice in the photo . The colors of the band shirts in your photo are wearing are the exact same colors as our school bands shirts.

@JudyEv no sorry it’s my son who plays. He plays guitar and bass for the high school band.

Blue seems to be a popular colour for band shirts. What instrument did you play? I should know but I've forgotten.

What a wonderful occasion to meet people with whom you played many years ago. A happy group judging from the photo.

@JudyEv - What is good after a certain age is that we stop changing too much.

@JudyEv It is amazing to me that you are 78 as you don’t look it at all. And I’m not just saying that.

@AmbiePam Thank you. There was/is a saying about farm livestock that looked younger than they were that they'd been in 'a good paddock'. I think I've been in a 'good paddock'. I haven't really had major problems in my life.

I played tenor horn mostly and Vince played tuba and/or baritone. If we marched he played the bass drum.
