Good morning, friends.
Today it is a day of memories for me. Today he would have been 86. But it was not to be.
My husband died very young, when he was 61 years old.
He was a wonderful man and he kept his promises. In fact, the only big promise that he did not keep was to die after I did.
He had been ill for a long time. His illness, then, did not even have a name and much less a cure. Now, 24 years later, you can keep it under control with a pill every morning. Such is medicine. There are advances but they are only at the beginning.
Today my granddaughter sent me a link that appeared online. He was a famous Chilean soccer player when he was young. His team is still called here "the blue ballet" because the shirt of their team was blue. And when Chile went to play for the world cup to England (1966) most of the players that were selected to play for Chile belonged to his team.
But I wasn´t so much interested in football (soccer). I loved him because he was generous and caring with everyone. I was lucky to be his wife.
I gave a party for his last birthday and he said nobody would come. One of his chums begged me to do it at lunch time as they were old. I accepted but worked a lot in the kitchen, not knowing how much so many men would eat.
Our friends arrived at a little after noon. We had a barbecue, snacks later on, coffee and sweets, cake, dinner and those "old men" left at around 3 AM the next day.
My husband was very happy. It was to be his last party.
Happy birthday, sweetheart!

I’m so glad he got to have such a nice birthday for his last one. How old were you both when you met? What was the condition that he had that now can be kept under control with a pill daily? So hard to know that but at the same time wonderful for these advances so no one else has to lose their life to it.

@shaggin I don´t think that it is so contagious is you are clean. I think that my husband got it with a needle. Back then, when my husband was a pro soccer player, the whole club went to hospitals to donate blood. And disposable needles did not exist. Now that is what I think.

I was 16 and he was 22 when we started dating. In my country they don´t have the same laws against dating minors as in the US. I was never interested in boys my age except for dancing. And we got married 2 years later. My father had to give his consent so that I could get married though. He had hepatitis C only then the name had not been invented.

I am so, so sorry. I cannot imagine a life without my husband although the past 8-1/2 months have given me an idea of what it would be like. Happy Heavenly Birthday to your husband.

He didn't have enough years with you, and I'm sorry. He sounds like a wonderful man, and so handsome. You were lucky to be his wife, yes, but he was lucky to have you, too.

@MarieCoyle The is no such thing as enough years of happiness. But still it is much better to have good memories even if your loved one is not any longer with you.

I can understand . I lost my dad at 23 and lost my twins last year aged less than 1. Good memories keeps us going and bad memories keep haunting us till we die. It is the case with all living beings especially us humans. The journey of life is a mystery unknown while we live in this world . You had a great almost four decades together .Not everyone is blessed to get such time. He is in a better place , watching and taking care of you . Good to read about him and the memories. You have a peaceful time with the memories!
