Swim day, on an early release day and more

Every two weeks or so our district has early release for everyone so that the certified teachers can get curriculum training.
Always on a Wednesday.
Wednesday is our swimming day. We just went a little early.
Over the summer our instructor/aquatics director found and cleaned up what I would call a "geri chair". It is a rolling chair made of PVC pipe. I guess it used to be widely used at the pool and she cleaned it up and had all the parts tightened up. In some of her day activities there are some people who can use it to get in the water, by rolling down the ramp. That is safer for them as they use canes or walkers on dry land.
With a small adaptation my kiddo can use it.
It flattens out, in fact, so I can change him on it, since he does not stand. That means I do not have to change him at school then wrap him in a blanket and seatbelt him in his wheel chair, then take him back wet to change him into dry clothes.
It is great for him.
Bad thing for today is that after swimming I was carrying him to get him to the ramp and chair and he had a one minute seizure. Kristine, the aquatics manager is very experienced with things like that, though and she was there to help. Afterwards he was very drowsy.
My teacher and I were able to put him into his dry clothes and shoes and get him in his wheel chair when he had rested a bit from the seizure. He got to have a snack and the bus to take him home picked him up at the aquatic center.
So all of that is enough to make me tired. I ate leftover roast beef for supper.

This is part of why I came back to work full time this year, just so I can be on hand as his seizure frequency increases. The right tools make things much easier.

We know that he knows a lot, but he does not always show it. Yes, he is aware, he has favorite things and if you open a refrigerator or a food rapper anywhere he can hear, he is on you in a minute. He also has dislikes, and he has the best belly laugh you can imagine, even if we do not know exactly what he is laughing at. His former baby sitter called it "I'm taking over the world" evil laugh.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. I am glad he's okay and everything. Something like that would be stressful.

This is why it is more than just a job to me. I am so glad for the aquatics director and other co workers.

It's nice the staff was experienced and there to help with both the chair and later, the seizure.
I bet one minute can feel like ages. It was quite a day!

It did seem exceptionally long. I did sit with him once last year while he had a ten minute seizure, and we had paramedics called.

I am glad your kid is okay. I bet it is a very long day, but I know you had fun except for the seizure... it happens. God bless and make sure to always stay healthy.

I am hoping they hire someone very competent for when he moves up to a different school.
